小洲人民礼堂在小洲村口附近，一进村就见到了，非常显眼。这是一栋两层的苏式旧建筑，建于1958年。明黄色的外墙，二楼正中的墙上镶有灰塑的红五角星，并有“广州郊区新滘公社小洲人民礼堂”的字样。门口附近乱停了不少快递的电动三轮车。进去礼堂，靠门口处有个小卖部，里面有饮料、手工纪念品、明信片等出售。在往里面就封闭了，只看到屋顶的大梁和瓦片。看来小洲人民礼堂的里面是典型的岭南砖木构造，可谓是苏式的外衣，中国的心。

1957年，全村人一砖一瓦把小洲人民礼堂盖了起来。此时正是建国初期，邓小平指示：“我们不仅要有生产工厂，还要有政治工厂。”这个政治工厂，指的就是大礼堂。这个年代的大礼堂多为苏式，小洲人民礼堂也是如此，外部保持苏联时期公共建筑特色，内部则是中国南方砖木架构。
