Dunhuang Museum

Dunhuang Museum  is located at No. 1390 Mingshan North Road, Dunhuang City, Jiuquan City, Gansu Province. The building area is 7500 square meters. It is a national second-level museum. The museum was established in 1979 and was recognized as a national third-level museum in 2013, and was rated as a national second-level museum in December 2020. Dunhuang Museum contains 13,355 cultural relics (sets), of which 138 cultural relics (sets), 387 cultural relics (sets) of the second-level, and 1387 cultural relics of the third-level. The appearance of the Dunhuang Museum is a Chinese ancient fortress-style building composed of the Great Wall and the Shanghai, which is very distinctive. The museum has six exhibition halls divided into 13 units, featuring historical relics of Dunhuang and precious cultural relics in Mogao Grottoes. There are many authentic documents unearthed from the Mogao Grottoes through the caves. Visitors can view the exhibition along the same passage as the grotto corridor, and feel the vicissitudes of Dunhuang's millennium history. In addition, Dunhuang Museum also provides special exhibitions such as the replica version of Grotto No. 45  and the brick painting tomb  during the Wei and Jin Period, so that visitors can understand Dunhuang's history and culture more deeply. The museum also has Fan Yanyan Silk Art Center Hall , showing some good cultural and tourism things. Visiting Dunhuang Museum is free, but reservations are required. Open from 9am to 6.30pm every Tuesday to Sunday (winter time may be adjusted), closed on Mondays. It takes about 2 hours to visit. Overall, Dunhuang Museum is a great place to learn about Dunhuang history and Mogao Grottoes art, worth a visit

Looking at the Mogao Grottoes, not to see the specimens that have died for a thousand years, but to see the life of a thousand years, the mural portraits in the cave are lifelike, the only regret is that they cannot be recorded by camera.

On the first day of coming to Dunhuang, I went to the museum first. The interpreter, Ms. Liu Xiaoying, explained very carefully, was familiar with local culture and history, and had interactions. It's much more interesting than watching it yourself. And also introduced me to some local characteristics and specialties. Great!

Remember, if you call when you leave the Dunhuang Museum, don’t believe the taxi driver said that there is an ancient temple Baima Pagoda Temple nearby, and then they will take you there. The Baima Pagoda is real, and the others are fake. Remember that there are liars in it, from taxi drivers to free explanations, Finally, take you to the small room to let the master open the show, and then be cheated of money, and make your arrangements clear all the way. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Make an appointment to visit, tickets are free. Teacher Ji with us is very knowledgeable, history, humanities, architectural Buddhism are involved, and the explanation is very detailed. There are questions and answers, and often prompts interactive exchanges, vivid and interesting. I heard Mr. Ji's introduction and have begun to plan the next trip to the northwest.
