Sotetsu Fresa Inn Nagano-Zenkojiguchi
4.6/569 Reviews
Sotetsu fresco inn Nagano is located just 5 mins walk from Nagano high speed train station. It is easy to visit tourist places like zenkoji temple (walkable distance) and snow monkey park (take tour bus behind train station). There is a sheltered overhead bridge to the hotel. The hotel is also located near many eating places (local and international ones like Starbucks and KFC) and malls (many of them selling local produce). It’s not hard to find places to eat and shop for all meals. The service in the hotel is good too. Staff will greet you the moment you enter the lobby and are quick in responding to your request. The toiletries are placed in the lobby and not in the room. Hence you need to take what you need before going into your room. The room is small and the bed and pillows are soft (does sink in a bit). The window is frosted so you cannot see the outside. You will probably get a decent rest if you are staying just 1 or 2 nights. But for more nights, perhaps the room is a bit too claustrophobic as there is no room to place to place the luggage and any other accessories you may bring along. There are also only a few local channels on TV. It was cold during winter at about 3 degrees. Thankfully the room and shower heater is effective and comfortable. Check-in and out is fast as I just need to insert my room card into the machine. Overall it’s a great experience and you are definitely getting more than the price you paid for.
Madarao Kogen Hotel

Love this hotel. The key ingredient: the staff, so very friendly and polite. Especially Uda at the front desk, she was always cheerful, attentive, and went out of her way many times to see to our needs. She is the perfect representative of everything friendly and positive about this resort experience. This was our first ski trip to Japan and the amenities are such a pleasant surprise. The hotel has its own ski rental, lift tickets sold right outside the door, 2 different restaurants, and its own onsen. Which was a new and lovely experience for me. The hotel is a bit older, and the bathroom is small for western standards, but the bidet more than made up for that ( love it ) and the onsen took care of the daily bathing ritual ( for me ). Heater worked well as well as the wi-fi throughout the hotel. The restaurants were a nice convenience, we paid extra for breakfast and dinner vouchers, and it was fun wearing our provided yukatas ( robes ) all day in the hotel ( not required ). The ski runs are well marked, and the ski lodges had delicious Japanese fare that blew our minds. And the Madapow! ( Madarao powder ) generously snowed down on us. Overall, would highly recommend Madarao Kogen Hotel. Again, arigato gozaimasu to Uda and the entire hotel staff that made our 3 day stay so very lovely and relaxing. Would definitely stay here again in the future. Fred Ermac, Jan 2025
Hotel Sunplaza Tsugaike

It is very close to the Muchi Ski Resort. There is a public bath and convenient dining nearby. The hotel provides paid breakfast and dinner. As for the facilities, they are very average. Don't have too high expectations. The advantage is that it is convenient for skiing. We did not go to other ski resorts after checking in.
Alpico Plaza Hotel

My return visit to the hotel as it was a very convenient place for short stay before venturing to the alpine hiking trails. This time, I managed to enjoy the natural Onsen at another hotel, which was free. It included free transport transferr and towel.

I would like to take a moment to express my sincere appreciation for the excellent service provided by one of your hotel staff members, Ito-san. During my stay in Hirugami No-Mori, Ito-San went above and beyond to ensure that our experience at your onsen/hotel was a memorable one. Despite the language barrier, Ito-san's attentive nature and willingness to go above and beyond to assist me in navigating the area made a significant difference in my stay. Her use of Google Translate to communicate with us was impressive and demonstrated her dedication to providing top-notch service. I was thoroughly impressed with her professionalism, positive attitude, and exceptional customer service skills, which were evident in every interaction I had with her. Her talent is remarkable, and I hope that your hotel will continue to support and develop her professionally. Please convey my heartfelt appreciation to Ito-san, and please recognize her outstanding work. She is a true asset to your onsen/hotel, and I look forward to visiting again in the future. Thank you for providing me with a memorable experience, and I wish you and your team continued success.
Zenkoji Temple Yakuoin
4.2/59 Reviews
This place is ~5mins walk from Zenkoji temple. neighborhood is peaceful at night. Shoes to be removed outside the accommodation. Rooms are on the 2nd floor so you'll have to carry your luggage up (there's no lift). Room (with window) is huge. You'll have to head downstairs to use the shared toilet and shared onsen (no toilet inside the room). We were only allowed 30mins of onsen time for 2 pax - couples weren't allowed to use the onsen concurrently so we had to go one after another (i'm not sure if the instructions got lost in translation..). Felt very rushed so i didnt really get to enjoy the onsen experience, but overall was nice and clean. Interesting 6.30am tour around the area and within the temple itself, followed by a simple vegetarian breakfast (porridge with omakase-styled sides with miso soup) back at the accommodation. The morning tour lasted from 6.30am - 8.30am. The accommodation provided a fleece blanket to each pax to bring to Zenkoji temple to keep us warm during the morning praying ceremony. We went on 30 Dec and it was SO COLD. Overall interesting experience but accommodation price is pretty steep IMO.
Hotel Route-Inn Komagane Inter

I tried to book in my husband and wife and sister, 2 rooms, but my sister's portion did not work well and I was in trouble. At that time, the staff responded politely and was very helpful. This was the fourth time I stayed with my husband and wife, and although the mountain climbing was dependent on the season and weather, the hotel was able to stay with peace of mind. Thank you!
HOTEL LiVEMAX PREMIUM Nagano-Ekimae
4.4/5294 Reviews
We chose this hotel by location first of all, because we arrived around midnight at Nagano station. The hotel is very close to it. There was convenient check-in and check-out automatic system. The facilities of the room were great - private bathroom and a toilet, and also pajamas. The room is very small, but it is totally sufficient for a trip.
Hotel JAL City Nagano
4.6/5153 Reviews
The hotel feels new, and clean. We enjoyed the amenities of the place, and the convenience — all that one expects from a brand-name hotel. The only downside is that the room we were allocated faces the temple cemetery, which should’ve been told to us earlier upon check in. Other than that, it’s a pretty decent hotel for a quick short stay in Nagano.
Biwaike Hotel
3.6/52 Reviews
We had a lovely experience at biwaike Hotel. It's a ski in and out and very conveniently located near the sun valley bus stop which helps if you are travelling with luggages. Check in was straight forward. Mr Tokutake who runs the small hotel was very gracious allowing us to get our ski equipment quickly. Passes were easy to get depending on the number of days you plan to ski and the area you want to ski in. Dinner and breakfast were delicious and after a long day skiing, it was wonderful to soak in the onsen that apparently is filled with natural spring water. The room itself is adequate, very big, the futons were comfortable enough. The room was well heated and there are vending machines downstairs to get drinks as well as a small convenience store to get instant noodles, ice cream and snacks. So happy with my experience there :) the team was gracious, hospitable and we couldn't have asked for anything more.
