In 1845, a five-year famine erupted in Ireland, known as the potato famine, during which time Ireland's population fell by a quarter and more than a million people emigrated to the United States. Located on the immigration ship Jenny Johnston, the museum introduced the terrible famine and the subsequent Irish immigration.
