The Getty Villa Museum was redeveloped in 2006 after a massive renovation. The Getty Villa Museum is built on the mountainside overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The museum is designed in the original shape of the villa Pabili, a villa in the ancient Roman city of Herculaneum in the first century AD. The city of Herculaneum was destroyed in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius along with Pompey.
