The Confucian Temple in Hanoi is a typical Chinese-style building, which is the same as the Confucian Temple in many parts of China. Most of the existing buildings of the Confucian Temple were built by the Li Dynasty in the 17th century, covering an area of more than 26000 square meters, situated in the north and facing the south. The whole complex consists of five groups of courtyards, with a dismounting monument outside the gate and a mirror-like pool in the front yard. In the middle of the hall hangs a Chinese character plaque with four big characters "Wanshishishi Shibiao" marked as "Emperor Kangxi Book". In the main hall, there is a table for Confucius. On both sides, Confucians of China and Vietnam are worshipped. The Confucian Temple is famous for its "Jinshi Stele" which is carved by a vivid stone turtle with its head held high. Located south of Bating Square, Wenmiao Street is separated from the Vietnamese Art Museum. Every Spring Festival, the Confucian Temple always holds a few days of very solemn sacrificial activities, as well as cultural and recreational activities such as calligraphy, chess, poetry, cock fighting and bird fighting. If you happen to be in Hanoi at this time, don't forget to visit it.

Temple of literature is the place where Vietnamese pupils often go to pray for success in their high school graduation and university entrance exams. The temple was free before, but since there are many exhibitions and events are held here, you need to buy tickets to go inside. You can also go there to ask for/buy calligraphy for the words of your choice as well.

Temple of Literature in Hanoi, VietnamThe place is really nice and a lot of historical facts to be learned. Downside was there were a lot of people as it was the last day of Tet holiday and it's Sunday as well. Would definitely visit again, when there are less people to enjoy the place even more. ☺️

If you are interested in history, you should definitely visit the Temple of Literature. During my visit there, I learned so much about Vietnamese and Chinese history. I also learned that Vietnam used to be part of China. By the way, I took these Chinese characters and showed them to my friends 😊❤️
