Beautiful and moving exterior. It provides a great monument to the soldiers and sailors of the United States during World War I. The square and wrought iron surrounding the building are spectacular. It is a shame that the United States no longer creates architectural beauty like this. You can take the stairs to the top-floor viewing platform of the monument, about 330 narrow, steep steps. I wouldn’t recommend it, especially in hot summers. Pay $3 for the lift, but be warned in advance, the lift is quite small. If you are claustrophobic, stay outside and just enjoy the appearance. The monument area is walking distance from other attractions and restaurants as well as shopping. If possible, free parking is available on Sundays.
