Singapore has many Burmese immigrants and Buddhism is the main belief of Burmese. The Jade Buddha Temple is the only Burmese Buddhist temple in Singapore and naturally becomes a religious and community center for local Burmese. Every year, the Burmese New Year, the Songkran Festival, thousands of Burmese people visit the Jade Buddha Temple to welcome the New Year in a traditional way. Every August, the Jade Buddha Temple also gathers many Burmese. Also, every Saturday night, a group of Burmese people participate in the rites of chanting in Burmese.
