I have dreamed of going to this place for years. However, now I find myself utterly heart broken at how terrible the experience was. Firstly, getting out there is not simple unless you go in a group. There is a tourist bus for 22RMB from Chengdu North Bus station. it takes around 1h30 to get there. However, no one at the station speaks English, so you will have to use a translator app if you have one. or just ask the lovely people at the service centre to help you (as long as you can ask in Chinese. They were wonderful. The arriving at San Xing Dui. You need to buy tickets via wechat, but the website is just in Chinese, so good luck. Alternatively if you do want to buy them on site, you can, but there is only 1 window open. And again, no one speaks English. Luckily, I speak enough Chinese to buy the tickets. But then you get inside, and that is where you walk into a dangerous, overcrowded hellscape of people simply taking pictures on their cellphones. The archaeology here is mind-blowingly amazing, I cannot emphasise this enough. Truely unique and spectacular. But good luck getting to see any of it behind the swamping crowds. I was crushed, smacked and even groped as I tried to look that the treasures of the Shu kingdom. So much so that I soon lost the will to live an no longer cared. I just walked out in tears of frustration. I cannot believe I came to chengdu principally to see that. I have never been in a worst tourist venue. And I work as a tour guide. There is one very positive point, and that is that there are descriptions in English. But no books or audioguide. But I suppose one out of three isn't bad, for such a terrible experience for foreign tourists.
