The Everest Base Camp refers to the living area established to watch the environment of the core area of Everest. There are two in China. The West Slope Base Camp is in Taxi Zongxiang, Tingri County, Shigatse District, Tibet Autonomous Region. The Dong Slope Base Camp is in the Gamagou area of Qudang Township, Tingri County, at an altitude of 5200 meters. The straight line distance from the peak of Everest is about 19 kilometers, the national AAAAA-level tourist area. There is also its base camp in Nepal. Climbers can continue their journey to Everest after the base camp is closed. The Everest Base Camp is located in the south of Rongbu Temple and is surrounded by a group of tent hotels, with a flag and a banner of Everest Reserve in the middle. Everest Base Camp mainly provides accommodation for tourists. It has a bathroom and a tent post office, which is the highest post office in China. Before arriving at the monument, there are armed police guarding the site, giving some warning to tourists. The base camp has no permanent buildings except two public toilets representing modern civilization. The best time to climb Everest is from early April to the end of May every year, so there are mountaineers from all over the world in the base camp. In January 2019, the Everest Administration of Dingri County, Shigatse City issued an announcement prohibiting any unit and individual from entering the core area above the Rongbu Temple in the Everest National Nature Reserve.
