The Parthenon is a former temple in the Greek Acropolis dedicated to the goddess Athena. It was built in 447 BC, when the Athens Empire was in its heyday. It was built in 438 BC, although the decoration of the building continued until 432 BC. It is the most important building that survived classical Greece and is often considered the peak of the Doric Steps. Its decorative sculptures are considered some of the peaks of Greek art.
