There are only 260,000 people in the small town of Uruapan on the plateau, and there is a Parikutin volcano 30 kilometers north of the city. To go to the volcano, you must go to the small village of Angawua near the volcano to find Mav as a guide. The small village is full of Tarasko indigenous people, who live in low earth houses and burn wood. I found a young man at the entrance of the village, not tall, with a baseball cap, a serious face, no grin, who could not speak English, and was in charge of bargaining by another man. It took about eight hours to go to the volcano, and the man barely said a word along the way, communicating with us with his eyes.
