Old Protestant Cemetery Review

The Old Protestant Cemetery is a cemetery in Santo António, Macau, China. It was established by the British East India Company in 1821 in Portuguese Macau in response to a lack of burial sites for Protestants in the Roman Catholic Portuguese colony. 

Macau Christian Cemetery is said to be one of Macau's world cultural heritage, "I don't think so"! It has been nearly two hundred years of history, is the first Christian Protestant Cemetery in Macau. The area is small, but it witness the history of Christian transmission of China, and it also hides the precious records of Chinese and Western cultural exchanges. In 1857, the city hall banned any dead people from buried in the city, so the cemetery was closed and preserved in its entirety to this day. In our China, many people avoid cemeteries, but Macau treats Christian cemeteries as a major characteristic attraction. Friends who like to explore can visit and visit~ Don't go for the timid friends!

Reading the inscriptions on the tombstones here is not only a memory of the deceased, but also a review of history. Looking at those lives that lived 200 years ago, it seems to be back to that era. I uploaded a tombstone of a young Englishman who died in 1787. He traveled across the ocean to Macau with a vision of the future, but was knocked down by illness and stayed here forever. I don't know how many other people remember him.

Located next to the front of the White Dove Nest in the historical city of the Macau Peninsula, this Christian tomb is also one of the world heritage sites. There is a small church inside. There is also this banana 🍌 tree. (Respect the ancestors, take pictures inside the tomb)

This historic site is difficult to find and once you do, you quickly realize it's condition is dismal. The short walk to the site is between junk and old buildings, the entrance to graveyard is a disgrace and the place itself is forgotten and neglected.
