The Norris Geyser Basin is the most active and longest-lasting geothermal region in North America. It has been about 1150 years since then. This is the region with the highest temperature of all geothermal resources in Huangshi, located at the intersection of three fault lines, including the Norris-Mammoth corridor fault line and the Hebgen Lake fault line (the fault line from northwest of Huangshi Town in Congxi to Norris). Relevant research shows that the temperature of 300 meters underground in Norris area has reached 237 degrees Celsius. In 2003, the area was temporarily closed because of the rising temperature of surrounding rocks. Unlike other geyser basins in Huangshi, the water in Norris area is acidic (geysers in other areas are basically alkaline), and different PH values between springs produce different kinds of microorganisms at the same time, which results in different colors of surrounding and spring water. In addition, the geothermal landscape here will vary with the season. Norris area browsing is mainly divided into two parts, Porcelain Basin and Back Basin. Most tourists will choose the former for browsing, because the distance is relatively short, and the traveling distance is only about 1 mile/1.6 kilometers. Porcelain Basin is the hottest place in Yellowstone. Although the condensation of water vapor makes it difficult for me to see the appearance of most geysers, it is easy to tell by sound that some springs are rolling. As I said earlier, Porcelain Basin is the main area for visitors to browse in Nuris Geyser Basin. But nowadays, most tourists seem to lose interest in it. There are only a few people on the winding roadway. Think about it, in such weather, people can see only that layer of water vapor, except for nothing else. Back Basin is quieter than Porcelain Basin. Browsing the trestle lane, which is about 2/3 miles in length, may be one reason why many people abandon it. After all, most tourists stay in Huangshi for a limited time. Back Basin is located in a forest. In order to see the whole scenic spot, I finished the whole journey of Back Basin browsing the stack Road in such a weather that is not suitable for geothermal landscape. After all, it's not easy to come here, and I have time. Most geysers in the Back Basin area are "quiet", but this is only temporary. The Steamboat geyser in this area is the highest and still active geyser in the world. Unlike the famous Old Faithful geysers, which erupt frequently, the interval between two large-scale eruptions of Steamboat geysers is usually very long. According to the data, the longest large-scale eruption interval of Steamboat geyser can be as long as 50 years. Once erupted, the geyser can emit water columns up to 90 meters. In the interval between two large-scale eruptions, the Steamboat geyser usually has small-scale eruptions, and its water column can reach about 12 meters. In addition, Echinus Geyser in Back Basin is the largest acidic geyser in Yellowstone. This geyser was very active and erupted every few hours, so it attracted a lot of tourists. But in recent years, it has been quieter. To be honest, I had great expectations for the Norris Geyser Basin before I came to Huangshi, but maybe because of the weather, maybe Norris itself is very ordinary visually. Although I spent about two and a half hours on Norris's browsing aisle, the memory left here is too little.
