In winter, if you bring your own skates, you can enter McCormick Tribune or Maggie Daley Park Skating Ribbon's ice rink for free. If you are not familiar with skating, you can take a free course on Friday and Saturday to make you a good skater right away.

Very busy rink along Michigan Avenue and below the Bean. Stunning at night with its skyscraper backdrop.

I never ice skated outdoors!!! And while it snowed!!! Something about that was very magical and I am so glad my bf dragged me here with his living social deal.LINE: Horrible, esp when you're freezing you butt off in the negative degrees. At least we could watch the ice skaters while we waited for over 45minutes. Best to show up super early or super late. Security was strict, they made sure no one cut in.SHOES: Wear socks. They'll keep your shoes hostage til you return the skatesTIP: From experience, try getting a shoe size that's a lil smaller than usual. I had this issue a while back and it was very painful to stand on the skates... felt like I was about to twist my ankle because the bottom part was so lose.CAFE: is right next door, they have hot cocoa and coffee
