Karamay oilfield is located in the northwest edge of the Junggar basin in Xinjiang, and the first well drilled is about 130 kilometers north of the Dushanzi oil mine. There is a "bitumen hill" in the northeast corner of the city, where water flows like a mountain spring, but black oil. Locals call this place "Black Oil Mountain", Uighur is "Karamay".
