I just went to visit the building and the security guard was really nice to let me in even though there wasn’t a show.

Well organized, reception, restaurant are good. Comfortable seating and great view. But for such a modern theatre, the sound is not very good and should be replaced. The design of this building is completely different from the design of the shell animals. Really one of the most unique buildings in the KL area. It’s a beautiful building that will make you jump again excited after jumping off the bus.

The design part of the main building is taken from the form of 'junjung sirih', a traditional arrangement pattern or gift made from betel leaves used for celebration ceremonies or Malay weddings.

The building was designed by Muhammad Kamar Ya'akub, a local architect. The source of inspiration for the design of this building is based on the traditional kite (wau bulan) in flight.

The building has the concept of a Malay house shape with three main parts, the lobby for the lobby, the mother's house for the Panggung Sari, as well as the kitchen for the main stage and rehearsal hall.

The shape of the building is similar to the betel nut, the symbol of the initiator of the ceremony that is often used in Malay wedding ceremonies and ceremonies to welcome guests.

Its construction was completed in 1998. The opening of Istana Budaya was officiated by the former Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohammad in 1999.
