Having worked in Mexico off and on for the past six months, I had heard a great deal about Chef Enrique Olvera's cuisine, and in particular his new restaurant in New York, Cosme. When I was in New York a week or so ago, I tried Cosme for dinner and found it wanting. While the ambiance is nice, the cuisine is simply not up to what I would have expected from Chef Daniela Soto-Innes, who was just named the Beard Foundation Rising Star. Overpriced and bland guacamole will set you back $14! I had the Octopus, which was simply not comparable to the dish I had recently at Mision 19 in Tijuana, and the Burrata actually seemed to be past its expiration date based on its taste. While I look forward to trying Cosme in Mexico City, I won't be back to its New York outpost.

    It’s tough to get reservations at Cosme and I now know why. It’s a vey interesting menu for wine and food. Problem is that it’s loud. Worth trying but probably not worth returning.

    Cosme, the main Mexican cuisine. It completely refreshed my simple understanding of Mexican food only with burritos. The taste is complex and unique and balanced. Denim bone, avocado sauce, protein crisps, fried oyster sandwiches, no thunder at all. Plus intimate and thoughtful service. Worth a second brush!

    Best contemporary Mexican food I have ever had. Service was outstanding. Don't miss the Duck carnitas and the Mexican coffee liquor drink - amazing!

    You may think Mexican is all about street food, but as we've found over the years when done in a sexy way, it's as high end as any cuisine and Cosme is as sexy as Kate Moss in her heyday. From it's tasty cocktails and beautiful starters you won't know what to order. But the highlights were the signature duck carnitas and the corn husk meringue which is one of the most amazing desserts we've ever had. If you're a true foodie, this is a must and up there with any top restaurants in the world!
