Cathedrale Notre Dame de Strasbourg Review

For me with a bad sense of direction, finding the city coordinates is the most important. The Gothic Cathedral in pink sandstone is 142 meters tall, and an overwhelming momentum stands prominently in a low semi-wooden house. The outside of the church looks a little "strange" with a steeple on one side and a platform on the other. It is said that this place should have been a symmetrical spire, but it was not built because of the limited financial resources at that time, but now it has become a feature. The arch of the front door of the church depicts the story of Jesus'crucifixion. The exquisite carving looks like complicated lace from afar. No wonder Hugo once praised the cathedral as a "perfect combination of great and delicate". Walking into the church, the heavy wooden door closed, and the noise and heat were blocked behind. People are so small in the center of the magnificent and empty church that they either stand or sit, or pray with their eyes closed, or gaze up. Sunshine penetrates through the colored window panes on both sides. There is a hazy beauty. The church is more solemn and sacred against the candlelight. The South bell gate is the oldest part of the church. Walking past it, you can see the famous astronomical clock. It is said that it was created by Strasbourg mathematicians and Swiss watchmakers in the 16th century. The figures in the upper circle of the astronomical clock represent the four stages of life: birth, youth, old age and death. These figures turn from Jesus at regular intervals, indicating that everyone may die at any time and that no one can escape.
