Carlton Hill is the shortest of Edinburgh's three dead craters. There are several memorial buildings on the mountain, the highest round tower is a memorial tower built to commemorate the 1805 British army defeating the French Union in the battle of Trafalgar, built in 1807-1815 years. Next to it, a bit like the ruins of ancient Greek temples, is a national monument to Scotland's soldiers who died in the Napoleonic Wars. Originally built as a grand building like the Parthenon in Athens, the construction was halted within three years due to lack of funds. Non-Scottish rich people to sponsor the project, Scotland's righteousness refused, Scotland's national monument to the Scots. This leaves a century-old project. The Scottish people call it "the pride and poverty of Scotland"
