The periphery of the temple was badly damaged. The first corridor wall had abundant reliefs reflecting the living conditions at that time, but it had no roof and became an open-air gallery. Because time is too short to take a close look, I went straight to the central palace to see the famous "Khmer's smile" - the four-sided pagoda shaped by the peaceful and smiling Guanyin Bodhisattva, which was also carved according to the face of King Vajbama VII. Although I've seen "Khmer's smile" from online books before, standing in front of the real thing is still very shocking. The temple was built at the end of the 12th century. After thousands of years of sunshine and rain, the smiles solidified on the stones were incomplete and beautiful, and the vicissitudes of life were calm, so that the impetuous heart immediately calmed down. It seems that the lingering charm of Angkor civilization still echoes in the jungle, recording the time and amazing the world. Because it's cloudy, the pictures have a normal effect. It is said that there are fewer visitors before morning or evening, and the photographic effect is better.

Love this temple with carved faces that many believed is similar to King Javavarman VIi features. It's not just about faces though. it also shows facets of ordinary life in the 12th century.

Bayan Temple is one of the important representatives of the miracle of Angkor Wat. It is located in the center of Angkor Tongwang City. The corridor is 160 meters long and 140 meters long. The corridor was originally built with wooden roofs, but due to the age, only the remnants of the broken walls and the huge stone pillars are left for future generations to hang. The walls of Bayan Temple are still preserved with exquisite and vivid reliefs, war scenes, daily life, and scenery of the lakeside of Donglisa Lake. It is definitely a precious historical monument. From the outside, the Bayan Temple is a pyramid-shaped building, the highest is a round pagoda painted with gold, built on two hollow platforms. According to religious consciousness, this means that the Buddha in heaven and the people on the earth are in touch. Around 48 pagodas of different sizes, stars holding the moon, surrounded by the central pagoda. The four-faced Buddha on each pagoda has a thick nose and thick lips, soft eyes, and a smile on his face, known as the "Khmer smile."

A great semi-run down, but very important temple right in the middle of Angkor. A must visit if you head to Siem Reap. Watch out for the naughty monkeys.
