Off-peak travel | A 2-day, 1-night trip to lesser-known spots in Guilin blew up with questions
The scenery in Guilin really shocked me
The karst topography is just too amazing
Little hills can be seen everywhere on the road
Driving through felt like entering a vast mountain range, very healing-

⏰ The next three months of June, July, and August are the best time to visit Guilin. I've been to Guilin before and visited all the classic spots. This time I specifically went to some lesser-known places and successfully avoided most of the crowds during the peak season.

🗺️ Recommended 2-day, 1-night Guilin itinerary
D1: Qifeng Village➡️ Dabie Mountains➡️ Zhuangyuan Bridge➡️ Yongfu Sinkhole➡️ Stay at a homestay near Yulong River➡️ West Street
D2: Homestay➡️ Mandarin Duck Cave➡️ Chaotian Rock
-
✅ Qifeng Village
🧭 Navigation: Entrance of Dongshan Village (bus station)
It's a hill behind the village, with wild paths trodden by people. It takes about 20 minutes to climb up, and it's a great place to watch the sunrise. I was also lucky to capture the Tyndall effect here.
-
✅ Dabie Mountains
Stopped here suddenly during a self-drive trip. The lonely tree combined with the mountain backdrop has an animated beauty.
-
✅ Zhuangyuan Bridge
Zhuangyuan Bridge is a great place to take photos with the vast Guilin mountains. You can stand on the bridge to take pictures, or cross the bridge and stand on the grass.
-
✅ Yongfu Sinkhole Ticket🎫: 50
The innermost part is a unique sinkhole formed under the Guilin karst topography. The scenic area is well-developed, with stairs leading all the way down. There are also many stalactites to see along the way.
You can use a wide-angle lens to take a photo of the sinkhole and people from below.
-
✅ Yulong River Scenic Area
Stay at a homestay near the Yulong River Scenic Area in the evening. It feels really special to live inside the vast mountains, and I watched a sunset that belonged to the karst landscape here.
-
✅ Mandarin Duck Cave
Navigation: Xiningge Inn
Near the homestay, it's a cave entrance that only locals go to. Because it connects two caves, locals call it Mandarin Duck Cave. Follow the path behind the inn up the hill, and you'll reach it in 15 minutes. You can take photos with the vast mountains.
-
✅ Chaotian Rock
🧭 Navigation: Chaotian Rock
It takes about 20 minutes to walk from the parking area. The cave is very slippery, and it's a very large sinkhole. At noon, the light can shine directly into the cave entrance and form the Tyndall effect.

🌟 After visiting Guilin again, I still marvel at the unsurpassed beauty of Guilin's landscape. Every place is so beautiful, and the unique karst topography makes this land filled with difference.
I found Guilin's very own "Dolomites" just 1 hour's drive from the city center.
My friend from Xinjiang said that Guilin is very similar to Xinjiang, but I think it's more like the Dolomites in Italy.
Cows and sheep roam the lush green grasslands, and it's only 1 hour's drive from the city center.
It's still a hidden gem, so I recommend busy city dwellers come and enjoy the pastoral scenery.
📍Address: Yongfu Jinjijiang Reservoir - Navigate to Hebei Village. You can drive down after passing the village, but I don't recommend driving to the water's edge as you may get stuck. 🚗
Note‼️: Be a responsible traveler, don't damage the grass, and don't litter. 🚮

Authentic Guilin rice noodles 🍜 suitable for all ages with a generous portion.
Upon passing by the bustling Jianghai Square, I discovered the source of the commotion - the newly opened Xie Er Liang! 🆕 Their specialty is authentic Guilin rice noodles and snail rice noodles 🍜
I came here with my family, including the little one 🧒. Surprisingly, the place was teeming with patrons, many of whom also brought their children. Seeing everyone relishing their meals, I couldn't help but chuckle 😆. The food must be exceptionally good.
Their signature Guilin rice noodles 🍜 are served in a unique way - you can add soup to your liking. Personally, I prefer a wetter texture, so I added some soup. You can also choose the level of spiciness according to your preference, and the staff will kindly inquire about it 🙋. Additionally, we added some pig intestines and volcanic stone grilled sausages. The taste was full-bodied, with a perfect balance of saltiness and umami 🈴️. My family couldn't stop singing its praises.
The snail rice noodles 🍜 were generously topped with pot roast, char siu, and braised beef. All were freshly prepared and sliced upon order 🔪. Through the transparent window, you can watch the chefs at work, which is reassuringly clean and safe 👍.
I'll definitely be back for more 😜😜.
Wow, it's amazing, the aquatic flower wetland
Guilin Yongfu aquatic flower wetland, a river that blooms ||| Not only Erhai Lake has aquatic flowers (water poplar), Guilin also has. The 'all seem to swim in the void with nothing to rely on' mentioned in Liu Zongyuan's 'A Record of the Little Stone Pool' and the water lilies in Monet's paintings are all realistic, the clear river with flowers reflected in the water, taking a boat up, it's really unspeakably beautiful.
1️⃣ The picture was taken around 1 pm on February 11, 2024, which can be used as a reference. You must choose a good sunshine time to go, it will appear particularly clear, it is personally suggested to wear a skirt, it will look good.
2️⃣ No tickets are required, because this is not a formal scenic spot, the river is the stream that the nearby villagers rely on for their livelihood, but the water quality is very good, the villagers have bamboo rafts, twenty yuan per person.
3️⃣ If you are driving by yourself, the approximate navigation position is Yongfu Baishou Wushi?
Chongshan Ancient Village in Yongfu
Chongshan ancient residential houses are located in the northeastern part of Yongfu County, Guilin City, Guangxi, about 20 kilometers away from Yongfu County. The village is mainly composed of the old residential buildings of the Li family in the village. The history of the ancient houses can be traced back to the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, including the old residence of the Li family, the ancestral hall of the Li family, etc., which is the hometown of the famous plum painter Li Jishou in the late Qing Dynasty.
The old residence of Li Jishou is composed of six courtyards, which are neatly arranged. The whole courtyard is based on the longitudinal axis, symmetrical layout, and there are moon gates and lanes between the six houses, and the ground is paved with bluestone slabs.
In the whole layout, the ancient houses all face south and north, implying the meaning of 'looking up and worshiping the homeland' (the Li family moved from Jingzhou, Hubei).
The planning of the old residence of the Li family is grand, the main structure of the house is well preserved, and it has been inhabited by the descendants of the Li family. The descendants of the Li family advocate calligraphy and painting, and the ancient style remains. It is a representative settlement of ancient houses in Yongfu County that integrates history and culture.
