Day 1: Picturesque lakes and mountains and leisurely picnic time 📍 Reddall Reserve This is a green park close to the shores of Lake Illawarra, with spacious grassland, modern playground, BBQ area and lakeside walkway. It is a favorite picnic and recreation spot for locals. Children can run and climb on the rides, and there are sand pits, zip lines and swings to play with, while parents can stroll by the lake, overlooking the sails and fishing boats gliding on the water, and enjoy a long-lost tranquility. It’s also a great place for cycling, walking or jogging, making it the perfect first stop for a family to relax in nature. The next day: ➡️ Play while watching movies! 📍 Event Cinemas Shellharbour (New South Wales’ rare “kids-only cinema”) In the morning, take your kids to Event Cinemas Shellharbour inside the Shellharbour Square shopping center. The features of this children-only cinema are: before playing the movie, children can play in the play space set up in the cinema, with ball pool, jump mat, slide and other facilities. The biggest feature of the museum is that visitors can board the interior and cockpit of the aircraft, where professional volunteers explain the principles of flight and aviation history, and can even sit in the driver's seat and simulate becoming a small pilot! This is an immensely fantastic experience for kids who love airplanes. Some models can also arrange guided tour explanations and photography, which is perfect for educational and parent-child activities. 🎧 Guide volunteers are mostly retired pilots or engineers, knowledgeable and friendly and enthusiastic. ✅ Recommendation: Remember to wear easy-to-move shoes, some cabins require climbing stairs to enter; there is also a small souvenir shop and coffee area. 🏡 Accommodation Recommendation: Lake View Motel Lakeview Hotel Motel is an affordable and conveniently located accommodation option. Located in Oak Flats, it is just a few minutes’ drive from the city center and major attractions such as Reddall Reserve and HARS Aviation Museum, and not far from the train station. The rooms are simple and comfortable, equipped with air conditioning, TV, small refrigerator and microwave to meet basic needs. There is a restaurant and bar on site, and free parking and Wi-Fi are available for self-drive travelers. Room rates are much cheaper than the surrounding accommodation, making it an ideal place for families on a budget. Convenient transportation and complete facilities make your three-day and two-night journey more peace of mind.

🚗 A Spontaneous Morning Adventure Early in the morning, our family packed a simple picnic basket and set off with great anticipation for the seaside city of Wollongong, located south of Sydney. The drive took about an hour and a half, accompanied by sunshine and stunning scenery where mountains meet the sea, lifting our spirits along the way. Upon arriving at Wollongong Beach, we were greeted by a vast expanse of shimmering ocean and pristine, fine sand. The sea breeze was perfectly mild, and the sunlight was just right. We chose a spot under the shade of a tree, laid out our mat, and prepared to enjoy a healing seaside holiday. 🏝️ Clean Sand and Gentle Waves What impressed us most about Wollongong Beach was the incredibly clean and fine sand. As soon as the kids reached the beach, they kicked off their shoes and started running around. Their little feet sank into the soft, warm sand, bringing smiles to their faces. Together, we built sandcastles, dug holes, and wrote our names in the sand, watching as the waves slowly erased them, as if reminding us that "every moment is the most beautiful in the present." The seawater had a hint of emerald green, and the gentle, rhythmic waves made it perfect for children to play in. Standing at the water's edge, letting the waves gently lap at our ankles, the cool water carried the joyful essence of summer. The kids chased the waves, their laughter echoing across the beach, and their pure happiness helped us forget the worries of adulthood. 🚶♀️ Leisurely Stroll Along the Coastal Path Beyond playing in the water and on the sand, Wollongong Beach is also known for its coastal walkway. The path is smooth and easy to navigate, with the sparkling ocean on one side and grassy lawns and tall trees on the other. Many locals and tourists jog, walk their dogs, or cycle here, creating a relaxed and natural vibe. 🍉 Picnic Fun and "Challenges" By midday, we returned to our mat on the beach and unpacked our picnic box filled with fruits, sandwiches, cakes, and juice. Just as we were enjoying our meal, an unexpected guest arrived—a seagull! The seagulls had already set their sights on our food, flying closer and observing from a distance. Some even boldly swooped down in an attempt to snatch a bite. Amid laughter and chaos, we scrambled to protect our food, and the kids were thoroughly amused by the situation. We had to admit, the seagulls added a unique touch of fun and memorable moments to our picnic. Eventually, we decided to pack away the more conspicuous food items, leaving only fruits and snacks. We set up a temporary small tent closer to the beach, enjoying a relaxed picnic while watching the ocean.
