Yi ethnic clothing in Weishan.
In the early morning, sunlight shines through the window of Weishan Wenhua Academy, illuminating the Yi ethnic clothing in a beautiful light. Yi ethnic clothing in Weishan is divided into five types according to region, and each type varies slightly in color and decoration according to personal aesthetics. Whether it's the bright colors of the Dongshan Yi ethnic clothing or the simple elegance of the Xishan Yi ethnic clothing, they all reflect the wisdom and aesthetic pursuits of the Yi people.
Yi ethnic clothing favors traditional colors such as red, black, white, and yellow. These colors not only have strong ethnic characteristics but also carry profound symbolic meanings. Red represents passion and vitality, black symbolizes strength and solemnity, white symbolizes purity and sanctity, and yellow represents hope and energy. The patterns on Yi ethnic clothing are also rich and colorful. For example, dragon and phoenix patterns symbolize auspiciousness and authority, bird patterns represent freedom and hope, and fish patterns symbolize abundance and prosperity. This clothing is not only for daily wear but also a cultural carrier that holds the historical memory and spiritual sustenance of the Yi people.
In Dali, fall in love with life and Yi ethnic clothing.
Weishan Ancient City, Dali: A Different Perspective.
When others visit Weishan Ancient City, Dali, they follow the guidebook, but not me! I'm like a little monster who just learned to walk, always exploring the less-traveled alleys.
I thought I could stroll through the ancient city like a martial arts hero, but I almost tripped over a small stone on the ground and ended up hugging the stone-paved road. It felt more like a duel with the ancient city than a walk!
While others sip coffee elegantly in trendy cafes, I'm drawn to a street-side snack with an irresistible aroma. The taste is like a little fairy throwing a party on my taste buds, completely derailing my diet plan.
Looking at the ancient buildings, a thought suddenly pops into my head: Is there a secret time-travel passage hidden in these walls? Maybe, just maybe, I'll accidentally high-five a martial arts hero from the past.
Weishan Ancient City, Dali, you're like a magic box full of surprises. Every time I open it from a different angle, it makes this quirky tourist laugh out loud and fall head over heels in love!
A Journey to Unwind: The Ancient Kingdom of Nanzhao - Weishan
A quaint and rustic ancient town, experience a slow-paced life
Compared to the commercialized Dali Ancient City, I prefer the tranquility of Weishan
No noisy crowds
No car exhaust or honking
Stroll slowly, take your time
Feel the cool and gentle breeze, clear your mind
When tired, find a local teahouse,
A pot of tea, a snack, savor it slowly,
Enjoy the peaceful moments
Dali | Weishan's most historic hotel.
🧳Before you go: Check the weather forecast and pack accordingly. Sunscreen is a must in Yunnan all year round.
🚗Getting there: A train from Dali to Weishan costs CNY 22 and takes about 25 minutes. There are sightseeing buses at the station, but they don't run if there aren't enough passengers. If you don't like waiting, take a taxi. A Didi Express costs CNY 10.
🛏Hotel: Dali Yihe Yunxi Jinshi Di Hotel
🏨Hotel environment: The hotel has a historic garden with ancient trees. The buildings are well-preserved and you can feel the energy flowing through them. There aren't many hotels like this left. It retains the historicity of the ancient buildings while providing a comfortable and convenient stay.
🍽Dining: The hotel has a restaurant. If you don't want to go out, you can order food at the hotel. The food is exquisite and the service is attentive.
✅Must-try: Feed the koi in the pond. They're not afraid of people and will follow you around waiting to be fed. I went with my child and the staff gave us some fish food. We watched the fish for a long time. It was amazing.
Weibao Mountain - Oxygen-rich land.
Weishan County is a national historical and cultural city, and the ancient city tower of the Ming Dynasty is preserved in the center of the county. Weibao Mountain is located about 10 kilometers southeast of the county, with a total area of 19.4 square kilometers. The mountain top is 2,509 meters above sea level, and the mountain is majestic and magnificent, extending from northeast to southwest. It was developed in the Han Dynasty and was the birthplace of the Nanzhao Kingdom in the Tang Dynasty.
Weibao Mountain
It stretches for dozens of miles, with undulating peaks and ridges, and the mountain looks like a crouching lion looking back at the county. On the mountain, ancient trees tower into the sky, the shade is lush, the streams and springs are tinkling, and the flowers and grass are flourishing. In 1992, Weibao Mountain was listed as a national forest park. The main peak of Weibao Mountain is 2,509 meters. Taoist temples were built here since the Tang Dynasty, and flourished in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. By the end of the Qing Dynasty, Taoist temples were spread all over the mountain. Therefore, Weibao Mountain is famous and is known as a famous Taoist mountain in Yunnan, and one of the four famous Taoist mountains in China. This is also the birthplace of Nanzhao, and many legendary sites have been left here. Since the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty, from the first day to the fifteenth day of the second lunar month every year, the local Yi people hold temple fairs on Weibao Mountain, which is a holy place for the Yi people to worship their ancestors. Today, Weibao Mountain is lush with vegetation, ancient trees tower into the sky, the shade is lush, the streams and springs are tinkling, and the flowers and grass are flourishing. The environment is elegant and the scenery is pleasant. It is a natural oxygen bar. The Encyclopedia of China: Religion lists Weibao Mountain as one of the 13 famous Taoist mountains in China.
What is it like to ride a whale to the sky on Weibaoshan? The ancient breeze tells of a sober mind.
What is it like to ride a whale to the sky on Weibaoshan? The ancient breeze tells of a sober mind.
This is actually a story from summer. After many years, I came to Weishan again for my idol Liu Yan's architectural archaeology class. It seems like ten years have passed since my last visit to Weishan. Sitting in a street tavern, I couldn't help but sigh. Back then, how could you drink cocktails in Weishan? There was only one homestay at that time, and the owner baked pizza. Yi women from the mountains would bring their children to try the pizza. I also remembered a time when I drank too much with friends in Dali and missed the high-speed train. Oh, what a story.
I followed Teacher Liu up the mountain, looking at tombs, steles, pavilions, and buildings. Every plant, tree, word, and stele on Weibaoshan tells a story. The inscriptions, ink, forms, and materials can all become the language of architecture, telling the story of the building itself and revealing its legendary or tumultuous life. The architectural complex on Weibaoshan creates a grand heavenly palace using the terrain. The myth of the heavenly palace created by my idol is still expanding in my mind. Looking at the clouds in the sky, I suddenly realized that they are like the Ruyi cloud patterns on the mountain. My deepest impression of Weishan has always been the rich scholarly atmosphere. Last night, walking through the rain-soaked streets and alleys, I was once again attracted by the couplets: "Leisurely riding a crane," "Riding a whale to the sky," "Attending a meeting in the Jade Pool," "Adding a seat to the lotus platform." Death can be so romantic and fascinating. I also happened upon a funeral, with mournful music playing, like a moving performance. All night long, my mind was filled with "What is it like to ride a whale to the sky? The ancient breeze tells of a sober mind." Today, walking on Weibaoshan, listening to Teacher Liu talk about Taoist architecture, I suddenly understood. It is because of Weibaoshan. The profound influence of Taoist culture on the lives of ordinary people makes even the death of mortals seem like an ascension to immortality.
I remembered the most interesting Taizi Temple, which is now filled with merchandise from "Heaven Official's Blessing." The combination of BL anime and traditional temples is truly an interesting anthropological phenomenon. Such magical inclusiveness can only be found in Yunnan, in Dali.
Weishan Ancient City: Time Imprints in Ancient Architecture
Embarking on a journey to Weishan Ancient City, my heart is filled with a longing for ancient architecture and a desire to explore. This small city, located in Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, is renowned for its well-preserved Ming and Qing dynasty architecture, like a living history book waiting for me to read.
Upon entering Weishan Ancient City, the majestic ancient city walls are the first to catch my eye. The walls, made of blue bricks, have withstood the test of time and remain as sturdy as ever. Above the walls, the arrow towers stand tall, seemingly narrating the city's glory and vicissitudes. As I stroll along the walls, each step feels like treading on historical traces, experiencing the weight of history.
Passing through the city gate, I enter the heart of the ancient city. The streets here are narrow and winding, flanked by buildings of varying heights. The blue bricks, black tiles, wooden doors, and stone steps exude an air of simplicity and elegance. Observing these buildings closely, I notice that most retain the style of the Ming and Qing dynasties. Whether it's the upturned eaves of the roofs or the carved patterns on the walls, they all brim with cultural richness.
In the ancient city, I come across an old temple—the Confucian Temple. Built during the Ming dynasty, it is one of the best-preserved ancient structures in the city. Inside the temple, the Dacheng Hall stands grandly, enshrining the tablets of Confucius and other sages. Entering the hall, I feel a solemn and mysterious atmosphere. In the temple courtyard, ancient trees tower, and the air is filled with the fragrance of flowers, creating a paradise away from the hustle and bustle.
Besides the Confucian Temple, I also visit many residences and shops in the ancient city. Most of these buildings are wooden structures, with intricately carved patterns on the doors and windows, showcasing the natural beauty of flora and fauna, as well as auspicious symbols. I step into an old inn, where the rooms are simply yet warmly decorated, and every piece of furniture bears the marks of time. Sitting by the window, sipping fragrant tea, watching the bustling streets and leisurely people outside, I feel a sense of tranquility and contentment.
In the ancient city, I also discover some unique architectural elements. For instance, many residences have small pavilions on their roofs, which not only enhance the beauty of the buildings but also provide an excellent vantage point for viewing the ancient city's scenery. Additionally, many streets in the ancient city are paved with bluestone slabs, which have become smooth as mirrors over time, and walking on them feels like hearing echoes of history.

Weishan Citywalk | Yunnan's seriously underrated treasure town
Really! Personally, I think it's more fun than Dali Ancient City! Very comfortable!
In addition to Xizhou, Weishan is an ancient town with convenient transportation around Dali. Weishan Ancient City is 1 km from the high-speed railway station!
But Dali is famous, and low-key Weishan is seriously underestimated. Weishan Ancient City was built in a checkerboard pattern more than 600 years ago. The streets and alleys crisscross, and it is one of the best-preserved ancient Ming and Qing buildings in China.
As the birthplace of Nanzhao, Weishan has a long history, profound heritage, simple folk customs, and quiet and quiet; there are no noisy tourists and Yiwu small commodities, only peace and tranquility, like Dali 20 years ago, vivid and moving.
✅How to get there
Dali-Weishan High-speed Rail 22 yuan, 20 minutes; self-driving 70km, 1.5h
National Day holiday in Dali - actually, it's pretty good.
I've seen many people complaining about Dali during National Day, but I want to say that after visiting Dali so many times, it really is a place worth going to. Dali is not suitable for rushing through sightseeing, you need to take your time and feel it slowly.
Day 1: Shared car from Sanyi Airport to Shuanglang. Rainy day, Dali's scenery depends on the weather, and Shuanglang is more commercialized on rainy days.
Day 2: Shared car from Shuanglang to a guesthouse near the ancient city. This time, I chose a guesthouse halfway up the mountain, which is a good choice and very quiet. In the afternoon, I went to Fengyangyi Village, but it was raining, the scenery was not good and it was very cold. My friend who was visiting for the first time was very disappointed. I said that after so many visits, I had never seen Dali like this.
Day 3: Self-driving to Weishan Ancient City. The weather changed from cloudy to sunny. Weishan Ancient City is better than Dali Ancient City, with fewer people and less commercialization. Plus, the weather was great, so we had a lot of fun. In the afternoon, we went from Weishan Ancient City to Xizhou, took photos in the rice fields, and chose a restaurant by the rice fields to enjoy the scenery while eating dinner. It was very relaxing.
Day 4: Woke up naturally, opened the curtains, and the weather was completely sunny. Who wouldn't love such a blue sky and white clouds? I made an appointment for a beach photoshoot at noon. After the photoshoot, I rented a bicycle and cycled along the coastal road, or sat in a beachside restaurant and drank coffee, watching the blue sky and white clouds.
This time, I waited for sunny weather, avoided traffic jams, and avoided crowds. I felt incredibly lucky and couldn't help but praise myself for planning so well.

Check in at the cultural gem of the hotel industry—Yihe Yunxi Jinshi Mansion Hotel
The hotel is located in Weishan Ancient Town and is a courtyard-style hotel with a history of 128 years. It was originally the residence of a Jinshi. The hotel perfectly combines traditional Chinese architectural style with modern comfortable living experience, making people feel as if they are in the blend of history and culture.
Environment and atmosphere:
As soon as I entered the hotel, I was deeply attracted by the unique layout of the courtyard and the mystery brought by the mist. The description of the scenery at every step is just right for my feelings. Each courtyard has a different style. The courtyard is shaded by green trees, and the ancient stone slab road, carved wooden windows and flowing water make people feel peaceful. This environment is especially suitable for travelers who want to stay away from the hustle and bustle of the city and find peace of mind.
Room experience:
I stayed in a garden view deluxe twin room. The room combines modern design and technology. Not only does it retain many classical elements, such as wooden furniture and traditional patterned curtains, it also provides intelligent appliances and high-end toiletries for modern luxury hotels. The scenery outside the doors and windows is also a highlight. In the early morning, accompanied by bird song and soft sunlight, it seems to be in a paradise.
Dali Yihe Yunxi Jinshi Mansion Hotel provides me with an unforgettable accommodation experience with its profound historical and cultural heritage, exquisite courtyard design and comfortable living environment.
Looking forward to friends coming to Dali Weishan Ancient Town to visit this quiet and warm courtyard!
Dali | A folk museum hidden in Weishan Ancient Town.
Miss Liang's Courtyard Folk Museum
Private collection, admission fee: CNY 20
The lady at the entrance picked two flowers from the tree for us, which smelled very nice.
The owner of the museum is very dedicated.
However, the rooms in the museum are a bit messy.
Unrelated collections may appear in one room.
The main collections include horse caravan supplies, red collections (military uniforms, guns, medals, etc.), and sacrificial offerings.
Yunnan has ethnic groups that like to worship a god for everything they do, such as the god of joy.
There is a guide to explain.
There is a Bernese Mountain Dog, which is said to be very old and is always basking in the sun and sleeping.
When we left, we saw an uncle repairing books.
It feels like private collections are really not easy.
Many copper coins have corroded.
Some stones are very interesting.
Hidden tourist treasures in Dali | Recommended walks around the birthplace of Nanzhao.
Attracted by the words "Zhao Ling'er's hometown", I discovered that Dali actually hides such a seriously underestimated town. Sisters who like quiet ancient towns should not miss it!!!
I stayed in Weishan for 3 days. There are many interesting shops in Weishan that are suitable for wandering around aimlessly. When you come here and don’t want to leave, time slows down. Various candied fruits are dried on the streets, and the air is filled with sweetness. (One day is enough to play)
Stroll around the ancient city during the day, have a cup of tea on the side of the road in the afternoon, and enjoy the clock tower under the sunset and the doves flying by at dusk. It’s another leisurely day.

🍜Food recommendations:
1 Nanzhao Zhu Ji Yi Yi Noodles: It was rated in the Shanghai Guinness Book of Records. Remember to add eggs, which means round and round. You have to go at 8:00 in the morning. There are few people in the early morning and the boss lady will also rap about the culture of Yi Yi Yi Noodles. Background, there will be a long queue after 10 o'clock. Friends who live in the ancient city can go to [Su Lao Sanyi Ancient Noodles].
2 Ah Qing’s rolled noodles: I couldn’t find it in the guide, but a local took me there on a scooter. This is probably the best rolled noodles I’ve ever tasted in my life. If you have to ask, there’s a small shop at the Dachangqiao intersection. In an alley.
3 Fanji Mala Renjia Hot and Sour Noodles: There is a queue, there are so many people, and the taste is heavy.
4 Laowang Guojiang Bait Silk: The bait silk is soft and glutinous, the meat is soft and rotten, and the soup is delicious.
5 Grilled bait cubes: The bait cubes in Weishan Ancient City are different from other places in Yunnan. They are in the shape of squares and have a thin and chewy texture. You must eat them.
6 Other snacks: Marshal mutton powder, handmade traditional candied green bean cake, Temple Street Fengqiao cold chicken rice noodles, corn glutinous rice glutinous rice glutinous rice glutinous rice dumplings, stir-fried shredded bait and papaya vinegar from the old place
7 local restaurant recommendations: Laoer Restaurant, Kunshifu, Weibawan
This hotel is so festive. When I saw the names Yan and Yunxi Jinshidi, I decided to stay there. I didn't expect it to surprise me.
This hotel🏨is so happy, right?
I saw the name ✨Yan He Yunxi Jinshi No. ✨
I have made the determination to stay here🉐
Unexpectedly, what surprises me is yet to come.
The decoration is antique and atmospheric, just like a famous family in ancient times.
Quietly located in the ancient city
Like a graceful lady
The hotel also has a personal butler
Thoughtful and considerate arrangements for meals
We ate matsutake mushrooms and black truffles prepared by the landlady! !
Includes private car transfer ✌️
It's really a worthwhile trip
Weishan, Dali, an ancient city seriously underestimated in Yunnan.
Transportation: Dali to Weishan by high-speed rail, 22 yuan, 22 minutes; Haro Shunfeng car, exclusive 85-90 yuan, 1.5 hours.
Accommodation: Weishan Ancient City or surrounding areas. There are not many people in the ancient city, and there is no need to worry about the crowds and noise of Dali Ancient City. Two recommended hotels:
Original Art Hostel (super modern but lacks a little Weishan ancient city flavor)
Weishan Yunxi Club (private museum + hostel, each suite has two floors and is super large).
Long-term rentals can be found in the ancient city. If you see a folk custom you like, go in and talk to the owner about the long-term rental price.
Food: People say that you play in Dali and eat in Weishan, and it's true. The average level of Weishan's restaurants is personally felt to be TOP in Yunnan. Here are some of the many delicious foods I've eaten.
Lao Er Restaurant: All the dishes are not bad, I prefer lotus leaf chicken (enough and tender) and fried stinky tofu (soft and glutinous, not available elsewhere).
Xuan Ji Hotpot: I prefer here to the Mala Renjia next door. There are more ingredients and the soup base is more delicious (the clear soup is delicious).
Ye Zi Rice Noodle Roll: Rice noodle roll + noodles + papaya vinegar is a perfect match. Even I, who don't like sweet and sour, can't stop.
You Shun Hao Hui Restaurant: All kinds of beef are delicious. During the meal, the grandparents (owners) will ask if you like it and feed you other freshly made dishes.
Ancient City Leisure:
Vanguard Bookstore: I go there almost every evening, read a book for a while, then have a rose roasted milk at the camping tea stall outside. The owner is a family of three and is very enthusiastic.
Nan Street: Nan Street is almost all coffee and wine bars and hand-made shops opened by people from outside Weishan. Most of them are not for profit but for leisure, so you hardly see the kind of commercialism you see in other ancient cities. Sitting on the second floor of Mengyuan Wine Bar in the evening to watch the sunset or on the second floor of Miye Coffee Wine Bar to watch the ancient town streets is a different kind of enjoyment.
Nanzhao Museum: A good place to learn about Weishan and Yunnan. Later, when I went to the Yunnan Provincial Museum, I felt that it was just a collection of the Nanzhao Museum in Weishan and the Yuxi Museum.
Mengyang Park: The sun is very gentle in the evening, the swaying shadows on the red walls and the blooming crape myrtle are super healing.
Hiking and outdoor activities:
Weibao Mountain: Century-old trees everywhere, Taoist temples that have traveled through time, mushrooms all over the mountain after rain, and the magical way of trimming the lawn with caged rabbits at the entrance of Weibao Mountain Scenic Area are all surprises.
Donglianhua Village: A village carried on horseback, with delicious noodles.
Likecun Village: It's simply a paradise within a paradise, and it's irresistible for those who love ancient villages and old houses.
Fuqing Reservoir: A good place for camping, with aerial grasslands + reservoirs, different weather brings different surprises.
Huanglimu Reservoir: On a sunny day, standing by the reservoir, you will be rewarded with a panoramic view of the fields + ancient city. You can walk along the reservoir to the village, a good place for hiking.
Da Xiao Temple: A place I've been to four or five times, the vegetarian food at Xiao Temple and the cats on the eaves of Da Temple are all surprises.
Xi River: Close to the high-speed rail station, you can see the most beautiful clouds in Weishan, you can fish, and there is a market by the river.
Weishan, Yunnan: A charming ancient city where time stands still.

Dali's Hidden Gem for Travel Photography | Weibao Mountain
| Weibao Mountain.
In Dali, I discovered a perfect spot for travel photography that suits various styles, whether it's ancient costumes, sports, or fantasy. This place is Weibao Mountain.
Weibao Mountain is located in Weishan County, Dali Prefecture, Yunnan Province. There are more than ten ancient Ming and Qing dynasty Taoist temples on the mountain, each with its unique characteristics. You can take beautiful photos from any angle. Here are a few particularly photogenic spots.
1. On the halfway up the mountain
Here, ancient trees tower with various shapes. You can choose a tree you like to sit or lie down for photos, or walk into the forest for shots. If you wear a flowing long dress, you will look like an elf in the photos.
2. Wenchang Palace
The gate of Wenchang Palace is very distinctive, especially when the sun is just above the roof. This is also a filming location for the TV series "Rattan." You can take similar photos here.
3. Prince's Hall
This place is the inspiration for the novel "Heaven Official's Blessing." Inside, there is a handwritten letter from the author Mo Xiang Tong Xiu. The courtyard is filled with various anime avatars, making it a must-visit for book and anime fans.
4. Qingxia Palace
This is the most exquisite hall in Weibao Mountain. It's very photogenic, especially on the steps in the middle tea room, which looks like you're standing on the roof. It's particularly beautiful.
5. Jade Emperor Pavilion
Right next to Qingxia Palace, the gate is very grand for photos. The steps inside are also very photogenic, especially with aerial shots. Sitting on the steps gives a cinematic feel.

Weishan, let's go to this Yihe Gengxi, you'll fall in love with it at first sight
Because there are too many people in Dali, I want to go to some less crowded ancient towns. Weishan is a destination that is quiet in the midst of the hustle and bustle. I noticed Yihe Gengxi last time I went, it is designed by the Aman designer but offers a more profound experience than Aman hotels .
Before you go, the butler will arrange free experiences such as incense making, jia ma, and tie-dyeing according to your schedule . In the evening, the butler will also take everyone on a night tour of the ancient town in a golf cart, which is definitely worth experiencing and will leave a deeper impression than most five-star hotels .

2024 Weishan Torch Festival, this is really exciting
It rained in Weishan for a whole day and night, and it suddenly stopped two hours before the torch festival ceremony. I have to say, this is a miracle...
I had heard that the torch festival was lively, so I stayed in Weishan for half a month to join in the fun, mainly because I was already here. But I really didn't expect the torch festival to be so crazy. I felt like a war correspondent and a special effects director, but these actors were really disobedient and too naughty...
Throwing rosin on each other, directly live BBQ, there is a high probability that there will not be serious burns, but every year someone gets slightly burned by the fire. But I have to say that Weishan's overall preparation and emergency plans are quite adequate. Each torch has a dedicated firefighter with firefighting equipment guarding it until it is completely extinguished. There are also emergency small fire rescue vehicles waiting on the roadside at any time. Once someone is found injured, the police car will open the way and send them directly to the hospital.
The Weishan Torch Festival is probably the busiest day of the year for all public officials. Police, SWAT, firefighters... I guess many of the people maintaining order and volunteers are also public officials from many government departments. To protect everyone's safety during the torch festival, everyone works really hard. Last night, I saw the burnt wood and other garbage on the streets after the festival ended. I guess the sanitation workers will be exhausted today.
This should be my first time participating in this type of festival. Seeing the sky lit up red by the torches and people enjoying their wild and unrestrained happiness, although I didn't go to the scene myself, it was still enough to make me happy
Weishan Ancient City - the birthplace of the Nanzhao Kingdom and Nanzhao culture
From Midu County Bus Station, take the shuttle bus to Xiangyun Station every forty minutes from 7:00 to 21:00, the journey takes about twenty minutes. Upon arrival at Weishan High-Speed Rail Station, take a 2-yuan shuttle bus to the ancient city. (On the way back, the driver charged us 5 yuan each because the bus wasn't full )
In Weishan Ancient City, I had a bowl of sticky rice noodles (at a shop with a Guinness World Record certificate). The shop owner, an auntie, also introduced me to their proud achievements. This shop is a breakfast place and closes at 1:30 PM. We arrived at 1:15 PM and managed to eat just before they closed
After eating the rice noodles, we strolled around the ancient city, visiting the West Suspension Bridge, Gongchen Tower, Xinggong Tower, Confucius Temple, Zhengjue Temple...
Tired from walking, we sat at Luckin Coffee to wait for some time...
