The Calanais standing stones are one of the most magnificent and best preserved Neolithic monuments that were erected 5000 years ago. It was 27 kilometers 26 minutes drive from Stornoway harbour or bus W2 plus 10 minutes walk. The stones are free to go in and open 24 hours. Beside the stones is the visitor centre is home to an exhibition, cafe and gift shop. The cafe is a perfect place to relax with a stunning view of Loch Roag. The town is easy to walk around, a coop and tesco supermarket just walking distance. Harbour kitchen serves good food but you need to have your reservation, their fried whitebait is nice and crispy, it is situated just opposite the town hall.
