🚇Transportation
Within Switzerland, I purchased a 6-day Swiss Travel Pass.
→ With this pass, you can enjoy unlimited rides on trains, boats, and buses.
Note: Some rides require additional fees, so be cautious⚠️
Tickets I purchased additionally for this trip:
- Brienz Rothorn Railway (half price)
- Gornergrat Railway (half price)
- Glacier Express
- Bernina Express
Especially for the Glacier Express, reservations are a must! To secure popular seats, I recommend booking as soon as reservations open❗️
The Bernina Express is also better booked early🙆🏻
For the Brienz Rothorn Railway, during the high season, tickets might sell out on the day, so it’s better to book in advance! My trip started on September 24, and I managed to book the day before. However, due to the very cold week, I couldn’t go all the way to the summit and only reached the mid-point. Since I couldn’t go to the summit, the ticket was half-priced, and I received a partial cash refund at the counter on the day.
📷Recommended Photo Spots
- Lindenhof Hill (Zurich)
→ It’s beautiful during sunny days, but the night view is also stunning, so I highly recommend it!
- Staubbach Falls in Lauterbrunnen
→ The powerful waterfall cascading from a high point is breathtaking! The view differs greatly between sunny and cloudy days. There’s also a beautiful light blue river near the waterfall, so I recommend visiting both!
- Lake Brienz
→ Both the view from the Brienz Rothorn Railway and the Brienz Cruise are amazing! Especially the scenery that unfolds after exiting the railway tunnel is spectacular!
- Riffelsee
→ You can walk to this spot by getting off one stop before the summit on the Gornergrat Railway! Here, you can see the inverted reflection of the Matterhorn in the lake⛰️❄️. However, it’s weather and wind-dependent, so checking the weather forecast is essential!
🍴Delicious Cuisine
The best meal of this trip was the cheese fondue in Zermatt, which was the best I’ve ever had🫕.
The restaurant:
→ Whymper Stube
🏠Recommended Accommodations
All five nights were fantastic!
1st Night: Mama Shelter Zurich (Zurich)
2nd & 3rd Nights: Dorint Blüemlisalp (Interlaken)
4th Night: Porta Cervino (Zermatt)
5th Night: Sunstar Pontresina (St. Moritz)
💡Tips
The scenery you can see varies greatly depending on the season. The high season in Switzerland is from June to August. In winter, you can enjoy a snowy landscape, but some places may be inaccessible, so it’s essential to research in advance.
Some transportation stops as early as late October, so be careful not to miss out! Make sure to check in advance to avoid disappointment💦
