Fairmont St. Andrews - Scotland
#ediinsider #tripblazers
Great to stay at the Fairmont St Andrews. It is everything a top class hotel should be. The staff,
the layout, the setting and the service; all excellent.
From our arrival on a busy Saturday we were welcomed and made to feel like valued guests. Reception staff - especially Cate, were excellent throughout our stay. I know that many hotels are still finding their way back to excellence since lockdowns and Covid, so it was good to be at The Fairmont where so much of its five star service is fully operational.
The breakfasts were good too; lots of choice and well provisioned. We also used Room Service and again it was excellent. Dinner in the Italian restaurant (La Cucina) where we dined on one of our evenings, was really good - especially the baked aubergine - and staff were attentive and friendly.
Overall it was notable how polite and well-trained ALL the staff are. It was a great stay and one we plan to reprise in the near future.
Travel Snapshots: St. Andrews.
St. Andrews, the name itself is a poem, a painting, a dream interwoven with history, culture, and natural beauty. Here, it is a miracle about fish, a cross-shaped X, a blessed place of the first disciple St. Andrew🏴. Here, every touch of the bricks and stones underfoot is a collision with past memories, and every sound of the waves kissing the shore is a whisper of old stories.
This ancient and mysterious land is not only the birthplace of golf but also a witness to a rich history and culture. Located on the east coast of Scotland, it has become a dazzling pearl inlaid on the edge of the North Sea with its unique geographical location. The sea breeze blows gently, and the vast blue waves complement its natural scenery and ancient castle ruins. Its history can be traced back to the Middle Ages when it was the center of religion and academia in Scotland. The University of St. Andrews, founded in 1413, is the third oldest university in the UK. When night falls, the ancient streets are filled with music and laughter. The night of St. Andrews is like a melodious poem, telling the soul and emotions of this city.

The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews (English: The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews) is one of the oldest and most prestigious golf clubs in the world. It has always been the governing body of golf, until 2004 when its authority was transferred to the newly established organization The R&A.
The club was founded in 1754, originally called the Society of St Andrews Golfers. In 1834, King William IV of the United Kingdom became its patron, and the club officially changed to its current name. Starting in 1897, the club continuously standardized golf over the next 30 years, and it naturally became the governing body of golf.
Such a beautiful lawn is key for practicing golf. Adults 4 pounds, children 2 pounds, it's practically cheaper than cabbage. A head of cabbage in the UK costs more than 2 pounds!

Exploring St. Andrews with my family was a delightful journey through history, culture, and natural beauty. As we wandered through the charming streets of this historic town, we were captivated by its picturesque setting along the rugged coastline of Scotland. The ancient ruins of St. Andrews Cathedral and Castle stood as silent witnesses to centuries of Scottish history, while the bustling university campus added a vibrant energy to the town's atmosphere. We strolled along the sandy shores of West Sands Beach, breathing in the fresh sea air and watching the waves crash against the shore. Golf enthusiasts among us marveled at the world-famous Old Course, where the sport has been played for centuries, and we all indulged in delicious Scottish fare at cozy cafes and quaint pubs. It was a day filled with discovery and adventure, where every moment brought us closer together as a family and deepened our appreciation for the rich heritage and natural wonders of St. Andrews.
As we bid farewell to St. Andrews, our hearts were already yearning for our next family adventure: a journey to the captivating city of Kyoto, Japan. There, amidst the tranquil temples and vibrant gardens, we hope to immerse ourselves in the rich culture and traditions of Japan. From participating in tea ceremonies to exploring ancient shrines, Kyoto promises to captivate our senses and ignite our spirits. It's a destination we envision as a celebration of both the past and the present, a journey that will create cherished memories and deepen our appreciation for the wonders of the world and the bonds of family that unite us.

Scotland East coast Road Trip
We rent a car at Glasgow Airport, headed east to Silver sand beach, Dundee, and St. Andrews. We stayed in a hotel called Aboukir Hotel, which is near Carnoustie train station. The price of the hotel was reasonable and the equipment was nice. Recommend the gelato shop in St. Andrews. They also have a branch in Dundee! The road trip was amazing as you can enjoy the coastline and beach. Stop the car whenever you want!
St Andrew Castle 🏰
Historic St Andrew castle in St Andrews Scotland 🏴
ST ANDREWS CASTLE 🏰
St Andrews Castle is the ruins of the castle of the Archbishops of St Andrews, dating in part from the 13th century.
There are minor access restrictions in the North Range and Sea Tower due to nesting birds.
On a headland to the north of St Andrews stand the ruins of the city's castle, the main residence of the bishops and archbishops of St Andrews and the focal point of the church in medieval Scotland.
Explore the underground 16th-century siege mine and counter-mine, and the 'bottle dungeon', one of the most infamous castle prisons in medieval Britain, which was cut out of the solid rock. John Knox and George Wishart may have been imprisoned in this dank and airless space, and this is where its believed Cardinal Beaton’s body was kept when he was murdered in 1546.
There is a visitor centre, with wheelchair access, and a display with multi-sensory aspects for visitors with visual impairments. There is no access to the bottle dungeon, mines or upper floors of the castle for visitors using wheelchairs or with limited mobility.

St. Andrews University, one of the four famous universities in the UK, has many noble children, and Prince William and Princess Kate have met and loved each other. The whole school is full of aristocratic atmosphere, and the buildings are more like castles.
