My first stop was Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery, where the stunning Pre-Raphaelite collection and the historic building itself reminded me how deep the city’s cultural roots go. Not far from there, I wandered through Victoria Square, where the grand Council House and Town Hall immediately caught my eye. It’s the kind of place where history seems to breathe from every brick. For something completely different, I strolled along the Gas Street Basin and Birmingham’s canals – often called “more extensive than Venice”! The evening lights reflected on the water, surrounded by buzzing restaurants and pubs, made it one of the highlights of my trip. Of course, no trip to Birmingham would be complete without diving into its culinary delights. I visited the famous Balti Triangle, where the aroma of spices fills the air, and tucked into a rich, flavorful Balti curry – a dish born right here in the city. Another must-see is the modern Library of Birmingham, with its futuristic golden exterior and panoramic rooftop terrace offering sweeping city views. It’s the perfect place to pause, reflect, and take in how Birmingham balances old-world charm with bold modern ambition. Easy to check in when I arrived later with the express check in panel. The room was spotless and a good side. Smartly styled and a lovely shower 😊 The only downsides were that I needed to take the shuttle bus outside round to the airport, and also there were a lot of slamming doors throughout the night as people came and left, which broke my sleep up before an early flight 😴
