Of the 86 islands I've visited in Japan, Tonaki Island is definitely the best in Okinawa.
Okinawa Prefecture is great for Naha, American Village, Ishigaki Island, and Miyako Island, but if you're going to Okinawa, try to experience the best of the original scenery while keeping your budget low 😃
[Tonaki Island]
It takes about 2 hours by ferry from Naha, and you'll arrive at Tonaki Island in no time.
It is the smallest municipality in Okinawa Prefecture in terms of population, and you can find sea turtles just by walking around the port, and walking through the village is surrounded by silence, and at night the roads are beautifully lit.
[Recommended accommodation]
I recommend the "Red Tile Inn Fukugijuku"!
You can see the red tile house in the photo. You can stay there!
It's already Okinawa, already the original scenery! It's a time when you can feel like you've entered a Ghibli story or something, and you can really relax.
For dinner, there is a house where you can eat dinner, so take a walk there.
Dinner is not very luxurious, but there is a lot of food and you will be full.
Since it is a pristine landscape, you may need insect repellent spray in the summer, but I went in winter and was able to get through it in short sleeves without any precautions.
1 night with 2 meals 9,000 yen (1 person)
1 night with 2 meals 8,000 yen (2 people or more)
1 night with 2 meals 6,500 yen (elementary school students)
*Free for children under 4, but if you need meals, there is an additional fee.
[Recommended sightseeing spots]
・Okinawa Prefecture's shortest prefectural road
It's an incredible 25m long! It's right after you get off the ferry, so be sure to check it out.
There is also the island's only traffic light nearby.
The traffic light was made not for safety, but for the education of the island's children.
The island's children learn here that "if the light is green, cross, if the light is red, wait."
・Footlight Street
You see the beautiful night road in the photo! That's it!
Village Road No. 1, which runs from the front of the village office to Agarihama, is beautifully lit up at night.
This is also the main street of the village, so be sure to take a walk there at night!
It's so beautiful🤩
・Cycling
Everything about Tonaki Island is so beautiful that it's fun to cycle around!
It takes about an hour to go around once, and there aren't many slopes, so you can see the various seas, find sea turtles, and enjoy the original scenery of Okinawa! 😃
You can rent a bicycle at the tourist information center near the port.
〈Electric assisted bicycle〉
700 yen for 1 hour
2,000 yen for 3 hours
3,000 yen for 5 hours
4,000 yen for 1 day (until 10:00 the next day)
※If you want to go stargazing at night, we recommend renting it for a day✨
・Stargazing
The village where the accommodation is located is also pitch black at night, so you can do stargazing, but if you're going to go, we recommend the road from Agarihama to Angelahama, where the sky is even darker!
Or, on islands without convenience stores, you can buy alcohol and snacks at a store during the day, and then walk from the beach to the sea. Enjoy the view and the stars at the same time✨
*The island is dark at night, so it's a good idea to bring a headlamp or flashlight🫨
[Access]
Take the Ryukyu Ferry from Tomari Port in Naha!
Adult: 2,750 yen one way (5,230 yen round trip)
Children: 1,380 yen one way (2,480 yen round trip)
*There are only 1-2 ferries a day, so be careful😣
Tonaki Island is a place where you can do nothing but enjoy the beautiful scenery.
Please go and check it out~🏝️
