Tottori Sand Dune Day Time to check out Japan’s very own sand dune! Since Tottori is right next to Okayama, I thought the trip would be a breeze… but nope — nearly 3 hours by train! Still, the ride was scenic and worth it. Tottori Station was decked out with cute Pokémon-themed decorations, especially Sandshrew — totally in theme with the desert vibes. From the station, I had to take a bus to reach the sand dunes. Surprise: IC cards weren’t accepted — cash only! I totally panicked because I always rely on my IC card. The bus driver had to help count the coins in my hand and drop them in for me — so sweet, but also a bit chaotic. On the way back, I was literally waiting for the bus outside some random house, wondering if I’d ever make it back! The sand dune itself was stunning, but that sun was no joke. Even with the chilly wind, the sun was blazing. I only climbed up a bit — just enough to get the vibe. Highlight of the day? The actual pear ice cream. Insanely good. I wanted, like, three more. Oh, and the seafood at the food court? Super fresh — no surprise, since we’re right by the coast. Then, look back from the Miho-Seki Lighthouse, the easternmost point of the Shimane Peninsula, and admire Mt. Tottori from the perspective of the sea! It’s really beautiful! The day before, I watched the sea on the mountain, and the next day, I watched the mountains and the sea on the opposite Shimane Peninsula. When climbing Mt. Tottori, I also recommend visiting the Shimane Peninsula, Miho Shrine, Aoishi-do Street, and Mihonoseki Lighthouse. The Fukuura area along the way is very similar to Ine Funaya!

A flower-themed park located at the foot of Mount Daisen. The meticulously maintained flowers are breathtakingly beautiful. Walking along the elevated wooden deck-style corridor that circles the park offers stunning views. The highlight is the flower field with Mount Daisen as its backdrop. You can enjoy seasonal flowers to the fullest, making you want to visit during different times of the year. There is also a sightseeing train that goes around the park for just 400 yen, allowing even those with mobility issues to enjoy the flowers. The park features dome-shaped greenhouses in all directions, including an orchid dome showcasing numerous Phalaenopsis orchids, giving you a sense of elegance. Since Tottori is famous for its 20th-century pears, the pear-flavored soft serve ice cream was delicious. There are also shops selling flower seedlings and various types of flowers.
