The 8th city on the self-guided tour of Switzerland with my son - Rapperswil-Jona, the city of roses What impressed me most was the beautiful roses that could be seen everywhere, and the several churches, chapels and monasteries also gave one a sense of the city’s history. Because the medieval old town is a historical site protection area, there are very few vehicles in the old town. Rapperswil also has a wooden bridge for pedestrians that leads to the other side of the lake. This wooden bridge is the longest in Switzerland. I only walked halfway with my son before giving up. Because I have aquaphobia, I am really afraid of the feeling of standing in the middle of water. My legs are shaking while walking. If you are looking for a peaceful place, a warm atmosphere, friendly people and a place where you can walk all day without getting bored… I would like to recommend Rapperswil, a small romantic town located at the end of Lake Zurich. Rapperswil Castle Located on a small hill in the center of the city, it offers a magnificent view of the lake. Inside, there is also the Polish Museum and a rose garden. Holzbrücke – a wooden bridge in the middle of the lake The 800-meter-long ancient wooden bridge connecting Rapperswil and the Pfäffikon is one of the longest wooden bridges in Europe. It's a great place to walk and enjoy the sunset. ☕ 4. Old Town (Altstadt) Small cobblestone streets, cute cafes, ice cream shops and old buildings are lined up, giving it a real European feel. Walk slowly and soak up the atmosphere. ⸻ 🧀 Food and Drinks • There are many restaurants by the lake to choose from, such as traditional Swiss food, pasta, or grilled trout from the lake. • We recommend trying the "Eiskaffee" (European iced coffee) or the rose cake from the cafes in the old town. It's so sweet and mellow. ⸻ 🕒 How long does it take? Rapperswil is a great half-day or full-day trip from Zurich. You can walk around the city leisurely in 3-5 hours. If you want to take a boat back to Zurich in the evening, it will add another level of romance. ⸻ 💬 Personal impression “Rapperswil is not a very famous city, but it is cuter than you think.” The view of the lake and the mountains reflecting on the water, quiet but full of local life, it feels like you have stepped into a European movie scene.
