On the first day of National Day, we set off at 6:30 am, heading for Taoyuan Village, Qimen. From Jixian Road, we took the city ring expressway. There were already many cars on the road, but we were able to maintain a good speed. After transferring to He'an Expressway, there were even more vehicles, and it seemed like there was an accident. Following the navigation prompts, we turned onto Deshang Expressway, where there were significantly fewer cars. We passed through many tunnels and took a break in the middle. We arrived at the inn before 11:00 am. Taoyuan Village is an ancient village in Shanli Town, Qimen. It features traditional Hui-style architecture. The village is characterized by its numerous ancestral halls, with seven said to exist. We visited three or four of them, which is already a considerable number given the village's size. It seems that the Chen clan was quite wealthy back then. There is a special feature in the ancestral hall: the wood carvings depict a phoenix above a dragon. There is only one inn in the village, located at the highest point. In the morning, it is pleasant to walk down the stone steps and wander around the village. There is an ancient camphor tree in the village, said to be the sacred tree when the village was founded. This is worth seeing. The trunk is very thick, requiring several people to encircle it. The tree is still strong and healthy, as if it were in its prime. At the entrance of the village, there is also a covered bridge worth seeing. We have seen many ancient bridges, but not an ancient covered bridge. We can imagine that the person who built this bridge not only considered connecting the two banks, but also thought of providing shelter from the wind and rain. This is truly a great merit! The Beech Root Ridge Ancient Trail was first built in the early Ming Dynasty and continued in the Qing Dynasty. It is 7.4 kilometers long and paved with rectangular bluestone slabs, each approximately 1.5 meters long, 0.6 meters wide, and 0.2 meters thick. It was the "national highway" connecting Anqing, the provincial capital of Anhui Province, with Huizhou and Jiangxi. It is commonly known as the "Ancient Huizhou Road". For the May Day holiday, I specifically chose to avoid the crowds and took a trip to Qimen, planning to find a secluded place to lie flat for a few days. I never expected it to be so beautiful that I couldn't stop playing around. I have to say, this is the most perfect combination of mountains and water in Southern Anhui, and it has refreshed my understanding of the area once again. Along the way, the mountains on both sides are covered with neatly arranged tea gardens, and even the houses in the mountains are neatly lined up, which is very friendly to those with OCD. The trees are lush along the way, and there are streams of various sizes everywhere, and most of these streams are clear and shallow, allowing you to stop the car and play in the water at any time. Tongkeng is a secluded small mountain village, where the mountains are high, the forests are dense, and the ravines crisscross, with streams babbling all year round. From a high vantage point, one can see that the village is situated right at the confluence of two small streams, merging into one, which is the origin of the name 'Tongkeng'. Also, because it is surrounded by mountains on all sides, resembling a barrel, and the village is at the bottom of the pit, it is also known as 'Tongkeng'. The highest peak of Tongkeng is Weizi Mao, with an altitude of over 1400 meters. The protruding boulders on the mountain peak look like a hat placed on the ridge of the mountain, forming the symbol of Tongkeng, which is clearly visible even from Lixia, more than ten kilometers away. There are many cliffs and precipices on the high mountains, with few trees. After heavy rain, the water pours down, and from a distance, it looks like a ribbon hanging on the rock wall. In winter, snowflakes start to flutter on the mountain peaks early. Tongkeng is a small village in Qimen without even half a division of farmland, located in the hinterland of the Guoniujian Nature Reserve. It is adjacent to Shitai County, poor and backward, which is evident at a glance. Generations have lived on tea, which grows among the rocks in the mountains, with little soil but fertile land. The tea picked is robust and well-shaped, with thick juice and a mellow taste after being brewed for a long time. Also, because Tongkeng is at a high altitude and the weather is unpredictable, with fog surrounding it all year round, the tea produced here, regardless of size or price, is fragrant and refreshing. With a history of over 800 years, the ancient village of Taoyuan is located in Qixi Shandi Town. It is said that the village was named after Tao Yuanming's 'The Peach Blossom Spring'. The scenery is intoxicating. In fact, Taoyuan Village has a simple charm, and the villagers are mostly honest and kind, living an idyllic life, much like the people in The Peach Blossom Spring. The villagers are mostly surnamed Chen. When the Chen family came to Taoyuan, there were five brothers. As the family grew, the five brothers built seven ancestral halls, namely Dajingtang, Chijingtang, Baojitang, Shenhuitang, Sizhengtang, Dabentang, and Xuwuci, known as 'Five Gates and Seven Halls'. In ancient times, Taoyuan had eight natural sceneries, namely Shibilinzhu, Yuyin Hantan, Xintian Gubai, Mingyue Yetang, Maofeng Gonghu, Tianjin Lingyuan, Xianren Liji, and Jiazi Beiweng. Lixi Ancient Village is located within the territory of Qimen County, Huangshan City, Anhui Province, quietly lying at the foot of the Guniujiang Mountain in Qimen, giving off a feeling of being nurtured in seclusion, unknown to the world. It has a history and culture of a thousand years, and has produced many famous doctors, with the most famous being the Ming Dynasty imperial physician Wang Tang. There were not many people when we went in the afternoon, and the ticket price was 30 yuan per person. Upon entering the village, you see a huge stone stele with the characters "Lixi" inscribed on it. The winding mountain road before the entrance to the village is rugged, with dense bamboo forests. Near the village entrance, the road turns, and a painting-like scene appears before your eyes (pictures 7, 8). Passing through this beautiful scenery and entering the village, walking along the small paths in the village, you can see the typical Hui-style architecture, with white walls and black tiles, and flying eaves and arches. The village has ancient ancestral halls, temples, bridges, steles, trees, tombs, and operas, many scenes that have withstood the test of time. The most famous of these is the Wang family ancestral hall "Hetang", built by the Ming Dynasty imperial physician Wang Tang. It is also the first drama in the history of Chinese opera with verifiable evidence, hence it is known as the 'ancestor of all operas'. Since May 20, 2006, when Huizhou Mudian Opera was listed as the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage representative projects, Qimen, as the core component of Mudian Opera in Huizhou, has an irreplaceable important position in the development history of Mudian Opera and the history of Chinese drama.
