Zhang Liang, Marquis of Liu, was an outstanding wise man in the late Qin Dynasty and early Han Dynasty. He was known as one of the "Three Heroes of the Early Han Dynasty" along with Han Xin and Xiao He. According to legend, after Zhang Liang assisted Liu Bang in achieving his imperial ambitions, he lived in seclusion here. Later generations admired his strategy of "keeping oneself safe" and his noble character of "not taking credit for success" and built a temple here to commemorate him. Because he was once granted the title of "Liu Hou", it was named "Liu Hou Temple", commonly known as "Zhang Liang Temple".

The beautiful scenery of Zibai Mountain in late autumn attracts many tourists to Zhang Liang Temple at the foot of the mountain. (Picture 1) Zhang Liang Temple, also known as Han Zhang Liuhou Shrine, is only 15 kilometers away from Liuba County. The temple, pavilions, bridges, steles, and forests complement each other, forming a long-standing Taoist architectural complex. Every brick and tile here embodies wisdom, and every plant reflects the vicissitudes of life. (Picture 2) Zhang Liang is the first of the three heroes of the early Han Dynasty, a trusted advisor to Emperor Gaozu of Han, and is known as the 'Teacher of Emperors' and 'Sage of Strategy'. (Picture 3) It was Zhang Liang's ingenious plan that led Liu Bang to seize Guanzhong before Xiang Yu, forcing Qin Ziying to surrender with the imperial seal. It was Zhang Liang who cleared the way for Xiang Yu's uncle Xiang Bo and Xiang Zhuang's sword dance, ensuring that Liu Bang survived a great crisis and safely retreated. (Picture 4) It was Zhang Liang who, after Liu Bang was made King of Han and owned the three counties of Ba, Shu, and Hanzhong, suggested him to burn down the Baoxie Plank Road leading to Guanzhong, eliminating Xiang Yu's concerns about his intention to advance eastward. (Picture 5) It was Zhang Liang who repeatedly offered good strategies, allied with Ying Bu, Peng Yue, and Han Xin, reversed the situation of the Chu-Han War, and laid a solid foundation for the annihilation of Xiang Yu in the Battle of Gaixia. (Picture 6) After Liu Bang became emperor, he couldn't wait to get rid of the founding heroes like Han Xin and Peng Yue. Zhang Liang knew that he could only share hardships with Liu Bang, not peace and happiness, so he resolutely resigned and practiced Taoism in Zibai Mountain.
