[2025 Beijing Stay] Travel Guide for Yanqi Hotel, managed by Kempinski (Updated Feb)

With no hope to leave Beijing and the desperate need to get away for a while, we decided on a little staycation. We spent a lovely few nights at the Yanqi Hotel managed by Kempinsky. The room was romantic and a bathtub overlooking the lake added to the romance. There is a beautiful garden just outside the hotel. We took the shuttle into Huairou and walked around in search of something to eat. We stumbled upon a little “European Town”. It was strangely placed in the middle of nowhere and seemed to close from 12 - 3pm almost like a “siesta”. It was great to explore another part of Beijing and actually feel like we were traveling. The hotel staff were incredible and the breakfast is a wonderful buffet with Chinese and Western options. #staycation

Yanqi is not in the city center, but at Yanqi Lake in Huairou. A hotel occupies the entire Yanqi Island, enjoying a unique location. It takes about an hour to drive from Wangjing. You can also take the high-speed train to Huairou North Station. There are many places to visit in Huairou, such as Hongluo Temple, which is great for seeking blessings, the beautiful Mutianyu Great Wall in autumn, Shentangyu, and Qinglong Gorge. However, if you stay at Yanqi, staying on the island is also very nice. Yanqi Island is the essence of the entire Yanqi Lake, and even Huairou. I can responsibly say that there are very few hotel rooms in Beijing that are better than those at Yanqi, let alone outside the city. The rooms are divided into the main building and 12 state guest villas nearby. Most people imagine that the rooms in the state guest villas are definitely better than those in the main building, but Yanqi is an exception. The rooms in the main building are slightly better than those in the state guest villas. However, the state guest villas are more private and quiet, and each has its own story. The Chinese restaurant looks very nice; it's amazing how well they handle the color red, especially in a restaurant. The dishes include Beijing cuisine, Sichuan cuisine, and Huaiyang cuisine. For a team that handles state banquets, this is a bit of an overkill. The Western restaurant is also very beautiful, especially when the morning sunlight pours in; it's simply stunning. Although the facilities in the state guest villas are not as complete as those in the main hotel, they still have a gym, football field, tennis court, swimming pool, spa, and children's playground. Being a northern hotel and a state guesthouse, the facilities are quite large.
