Wat Phra That Hariphunchai
Wat Phra That Hariphunchai Woramahawihan is an important religious site in the North. It is a sacred place that has been with Lamphun for more than a thousand years. It is located in the center of Lamphun, about 150 meters from the city hall. It is surrounded by roads on four sides: Attharot Road to the north, Chai Mongkhon Road to the south, and Rop Mueang Road to the east. It is also the chedi for people born in the year of the rooster. Phra Borommathat Hariphunchai contains the relics of the Lord Buddha in a golden casket enshrined in a pagoda. It consists of a lotus pedestal, a lotus pedestal, a recessed pedestal, and a three-tiered round pedestal, supporting a round bell-shaped body. The recessed throne is 25 wah and 2 sok high and 12 wah and 2 sok wide at the base. There are two tiers of Sattibanchon (iron and brass fences), a golden ship, and a guardian deity on the outer fence on both the north and south sides. There are also Kumpan arches. And the four corner umbrellas and four towers on each side contain a seated Buddha image in every hall. In addition, there are lamps and altars built for Buddhists in general to worship. Wat Phra That Hariphunchai Woramahawihan was originally the palace of King Atittayarat, the 33rd ruler of Hariphunchai City, after Queen Chamadevi, the first ruler of Hariphunchai City. The area of the palace walls of King Atittayarat was divided into two floors: the outer and inner floors. Later, King Atittayarat donated his palace to be a temple to Buddhism. After donating it to be a temple, the outer wall was demolished and a pair of lions were molded at the eastern gate arch. They were large lions decorated with royal costumes, standing with their mouths open, and installed in their place. This is according to the ancient northern tradition of building lions to guard temples. Wat Phra That Hariphunchai therefore has a double wall in the form of King Atittayarat's original palace: the outer floor around the temple, the first floor And build a wall as a pavilion around the Phra That Hariphunchai as another inner wall. Wat Phra That Hariphunchai Woramahawihan is located in the heart of Lamphun city with roads surrounding it on all four sides. It was built in 1651. An interesting thing is the gate arch. Before entering the temple, you must pass through a brick and mortar gate decorated with intricate patterns. It is an ancient craftsmanship from the Srivijaya period. It consists of multiple arches. In front of the gate arch, there is a pair of large lions standing majestically on a pedestal about 1 meter high. This pair of lions was sculpted during the reign of King Athitayarat when he donated the palace to be the Royal Sangkharam Temple. After passing through the gate arch, you will see a large temple called the Royal Temple. It is a large temple with galleries all around and porches at both the front and the back. It is a newly built temple to replace the old one which was destroyed by a storm in 1923. #Wat Phra That Hariphunchai Woramahawihan #Visit Lamphun
