Wat Krapongsurin Royal Monastery
Wat Phra Phang Surin Royal Monastery, Trang Province was built in 1897 by the Chinese community, led by a local tycoon named A Se, who donated 20 rai at first. Later, more was purchased. The original name was Wat Kapang after a large pond nearby. The temple was located on a small hill sloping from the north to a rice field near a marsh called “Sa Kapang”. Later, the name was changed to Wat Kapang Surin after Phraya Surin Racha (Nok Yung Wiseskul), the governor of Phuket Province, who renovated Sa Kapang into a place for relaxation. Wat Kapang Surin was graciously promoted to the status of a third-class royal monastery in 2006. Wat Kapang Surin is an ancient temple of Trang. Inside the temple, there is a local southern architecture chapel with wooden pillars, brick and mortar walls, and a two-tiered gable roof. It was registered as an ancient monument on March 17, 1999.
