The site of the Unit 731 of the Japanese Army in Harbin, Heilongjiang, is located at No. 47, Xinjiang Street, Pingfang District, Harbin. It is a site that carries painful historical memories. The site was built in 1933 and was used in various names to conduct war crimes such as human experiments, animal experiments, and research and production of biological and chemical weapons. In 1936, the Unit 731 established a bacteriological weapons research and production base in Pingfang, Harbin, and designated a large area of land as a special military area. Today, there are still many key protected relics in the site, covering an area of 248,000 square meters. It is one of the bases for research, experimentation and manufacturing of bacteriological weapons in world history. This site not only witnessed the brutality of Japan during the war, but also served as an important place to expose war crimes and conduct peace and patriotism education. In 1997, the site was awarded as one of the 100 national patriotism education demonstration bases, and has important historical and cultural value.
