Hotel-level service but shockingly sweet afternoon tea
I saw this Central restaurant offering half-price afternoon tea on KKday. I had seen online that the environment was good, so I was very excited to make a reservation. However, I can only say that the higher the expectations, the greater the gap.
Location: In the Mid-Levels area of Central. You can take minibus 12A or walk up. From the greenhouse of the Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens, take a sky bridge to the hotel.
Environment: Next to the entrance is the hotel reception, with a large space for people to rest and wait for a table. The interior is rectangular in shape, and makes good use of the scenery of the lush green trees of Hong Kong Park and the undulating buildings. In addition to the floor-to-ceiling glass windows for lighting, a green city landscape is formed behind. It's a pity that the weather was gloomy that day, with strong winds and heavy rain. However, there were only two large hairdressing seats in the corner with floor-to-ceiling windows, which were also reserved. There was only a smaller square table, which was very cramped, so we immediately asked to change tables. There is a bar in the middle of the restaurant, which offers free-to-refill freshly ground coffee or Lipton black tea. The overall atmosphere is spacious, comfortable and elegant.
Service: They immediately agreed to change the table, helped take photos, and regularly cleared away dishes or refilled water. The service was very thoughtful, but the food was a matter of personal preference.
Package: "Symphony" Afternoon Tea for Two + 2 Glasses of Sparkling Wine $292
Savory: My friend and I think this is the best part of the entire afternoon tea.
🔹Mini Wagyu Hamburger🍔
Although it is a small hamburger, it is full of gravy and beef flavor 👍🏻, and is as delicious as the small hamburger I had at Salted Pig before 😍. The addition of tomatoes and salad ingredients enhances the taste.
🔹Crayfish bun🍔
It is filled with fresh crayfish 🍤 meat mixed with salad sauce, and the bread is baked dry and crispy. Except for the spicy method, this cooking method is good😘.
Desserts: Mostly very sweet.
🔸Raisin flavored muffins🧁
A failed product, the texture was very thick, like eating a ball of dry and hard flour 😕, and only provided strawberry jam and tasteless bubble cream instead of Clotted Cream 😩. I saw the guests at another table only ate half of it, but in order to avoid waste, I insisted on finishing it 😅.
🔸Macaron🧁
It has orange and grape flavors, and the middle is not cream but fruit-flavored jelly. It is also extremely sweet.
🔸Green Tea Opera House Cake🧁
The appearance is quite delicate, with a green marble surface. It looks like a thousand-layer cake, but it is not once you eat it. It has a more complex taste. It is made up of three cake slices of different textures stacked repeatedly, with sponge cake, red beans and chocolate alternating. The taste is real, with a light green tea fragrance, but it is all too sweet😔.
🔸Apple 🍎 Cheese Tart 🧁
Although it is not very sweet, the taste is just average. The cheese flavor is light, the cream is thick and smooth, and the apple pieces are not fresh at all. I don’t quite understand what kind of dessert this is 🙃.
🔸Strawberry🍓Red Velvet Cake🧁
The only thing that was just the right sweetness 😌, because there were no extra ingredients, was two slices of soft red velvet cake and a sweet and sour strawberry.
🔸70% fragrant 🍫 chocolate caramel cake🧁
This is extremely sweet because the middle is filled with lava caramel and the outer layer of chocolate cream is also sweet, so I can’t eat it at all 😖.
🔸3.6 Hokkaido milk pudding🥛
The milk flavor is not prominent, but the sweetness is more obvious. The more you eat it, the sweeter it becomes. The transparent jelly on the top can't help, it's just for the taste.
🔸MOVENPICK Ice Cream🍨
They are 🍫chocolate flavor and 🍓strawberry flavor. This brand of ice cream is of guaranteed quality, but my friend and I are actually just average at chocolate 😗.
In conclusion, the ratio of savory dishes to desserts is unbalanced. In fact, there are only two savory dishes, and the other eight are sweet 😅. No matter how much you like sweet food, you don’t want to eat eight desserts at once. Moreover, each one uses a lot of sugar 🥲, which is very sweet 😢, so I kept drinking tea to relieve the greasiness. If you can't make a reservation for the hairdressing seat with floor-to-ceiling windows in the corner, the food is actually not attractive. It is recommended that you call and ask before making a reservation.
