Andalucia Tour ~ Cadiz The museum is in a beautiful square with big banyan trees, a very nice atmosphere and contains a wonderful archaeological collection which is very, very interesting. It covers several periods starting from the Neolithic period and ending with the Mudejar period. But the most special is the exhibition of works from the Phoenician era. The sarcophagus is spectacular, but the dowry, sculptures and jewellery are also interesting. There were mosaics and sculptures in the Roman era. Everything was explained very well. One room explained what a cemetery looked like and the different types of burials. The museum is not big, but of high quality. Admission is free. Built in the 17th century, it has witnessed important events in the history of Cádiz. You can tour its ramparts, enjoy stunning sea views, and learn about its history in the small museum it houses. It’s a place full of history, with great views of the harbour and neighbouring beaches, and a great spot to take photos of the coast of Cádiz. Currently, various art, photography and other exhibitions are often held in the building's multiple rooms. Andalucia Tour ~ Cadiz The city beach is not affected by the Levante wind (an easterly wind that carries moisture from the Mediterranean Sea), so the sand is fine, and due to its proximity to the old town and a significant panoramic view, you can enjoy the beauty of Campo do Sul, the Cathedral, the Castle of San Sebastian... It is very crowded at high tide in July and August, but wide and flat at low tide. The narrow boardwalks often force you to walk on very hot sand. The beach is equipped with showers, bars, footbaths, trash cans, everything you need, the beach is very neat and clean with almost no shells. If you're looking for a beach without anything that could hurt your feet, this is ideal. The site is divided into different levels corresponding to the different periods of occupation of the settlement, among which the layout of streets, houses and tools dating back to the 9th century BC can be seen. It is essential for understanding the history of Cadiz and its oldest inhabitants, the Phoenicians. The audiovisual they showed was very good, it started in a video format of an American detective series, which was very interesting and helped a lot in understanding everything. You can climb to the top of the cathedral's east tower, Torre del Reloj, from where you can enjoy a stunning panoramic view of the old town. The main facade consists of two octagonal towers in Baroque and Neoclassical styles. The dome is striking for its yellow glazed tiles, and on its base stand sculptures of the four evangelists. The temple is in the shape of a Latin cross, with three naves and sixteen chapels. The nave is divided by oval columns with fluted Corinthian columns at either end. Of note is the elaborately inlaid wooden choir and, in the crypt below, the tomb of Manuel de Falla, a famous 20th-century Cadiz composer. Unfortunately for King Alfonso, the Gothic building was destroyed by the Anglo-Dutch troops who attacked and sacked Cadiz in 1596. It was considered a cathedral until 1838, when the city’s cathedral was transferred to Sé Nova. From that date in 1838 it was considered merely a parish church; nevertheless the architectural style was varied, although its Gothic imprint had not disappeared. Andalusia - Cadiz Beautiful archaeological displays showcasing the ancient Roman theater built by Lucius Cornelius Balbo in 43 BC. Less than a third of the original amphitheater survives, with the background and stage scenes completely gone. You can see the original foundations through the glass floor, view the theater model, and watch an interesting film (in Spanish and English) vividly depicting the reconstruction of the Roman era. You can also walk through the tunnel into the open-air theater, all of which is free to enter!

Andalucia Tour ~ Cadiz The Iberoamerican Foundation is a cultural center that promotes exchanges and cooperation between Spain and Latin America. It hosts art exhibitions, conferences and seminars, and its cultural program is diverse. The building itself is an old monastery, which is now very well maintained and preserved, but has also experienced moments of complete abandonment. The building was built at the end of the 18th century in a neoclassical style and its size is the most appropriate for the activities currently taking place, although this was not always the case. For most of that time (130 years) it was a prison, and for 15 years since 1991 it was the court headquarters. A very interesting building with a permanent exhibition in different rooms and various exhibitions in different cycles. Admission is free, so even if you just want to see the building from the inside, it's well worth a visit. I recently had a lovely time enjoying the fresh seafood and chill seaside ambience in the town of Cádiz, an hour plus away by car from Seville. Beautiful beaches and lovely architecture in the old town area (churches, cathedrals and all the old school houses), really amazing vibes. The cathedral has many names; Santa Cruz Sobre el Mar (Saint Cruz on the Sea), Santa Cruz Sobre las Aguas (Saint Cruz on the waters), but most famously, the New Cathedral. The latter comes from the fact that the cathedral that used to stay there was burned down in 1596 before the new one was erected. The cathedral is open Monday to Saturday from 10:00-21:00 and Sundays from 13:30-21:00, and the clock tower is open Monday to Saturday from 10:00-21:00 and Sundays from 12:00-15:00 and 16:00-21:00. Last entry to the cathedral is 45 minutes before closing time and 30 minutes before closing time for climbing the clock tower.
