Yunnan Lancang County Bulang Ancient Village, Wengji Ancient Village (lesser-known free attraction)
📍Attraction Address: Wengji Thousand-Year Bulang Ancient Village, Mangjing Village, Huimin Town, Lancang County, 73 kilometers from the county seat, 28 kilometers from the town government.
🚗Transportation: We drove there ourselves.
👍️Must-visit Attraction: Wengji Bulang Ancient Village has a long history, with well-preserved and inherited Bulang ecological culture, rich primitive features, beautiful natural scenery, and prominent ethnic characteristics. It is known as the 'Thousand-Year Bulang Ancient Village.' The ancient village has attractions such as ancient villages, temples, village gates, village centers, ancient cypress trees, and other scenic spots. It is a tourist village mainly focused on developing Bulang cultural tourism.
The academic community recognizes that the Bulang people are one of the earliest tea-growing ethnic groups in Yunnan. The 'Guangnan County Chronicle' records: In the 5th century BC, the Juting Kingdom was formed by tribes mainly consisting of Liao and Pu. During the Sui and Tang dynasties (589-907 AD), the Puzi Man were distributed in Jingdong, Baoshan, Yunlong, and other places, as well as along the Lancang River. In the early Ming Dynasty, the Bulang people became the main ethnic group in Fengqing County. During the Qing Dynasty, the Bulang people gradually migrated southward to places like Shunning and Qingdian. The areas where these Bulang people once lived left large areas of tea fields, becoming the main tea-producing regions in Yunnan. Therefore, it is well-deserved to say that the Bulang people are thousand-year-old tea farmers.
🎟️Ticket Information: No reservation needed, no tickets required.
💗Other Tips: A very lesser-known attraction.

Drinking Pu'er in Pu'er~
A person went through great hardships to take public transportation to Jingmai Mountain
Washing off the dust of travel in the ancient village of Wengji
Pu'er tea is very delicious, and the people are very hospitable
Quietly watching the sunrise and sunset
Because the transportation is not well developed
The original ecological things are well preserved
I hope people and things can continue to remain simple

Treasure Village Share | The super healing primitive village in Yunnan
I've been back from Pu'er for almost two months now, and I recommend this place to everyone I meet.

You ask if there's anything fun? It doesn't seem like it. It's just eating and drinking, watching the villagers do farm work every day, learning some local songs, and listening to them chat in their language. Although I can't understand a thing, it doesn't stop me from laughing along with them. These seemingly insignificant moments are all so healing✨

Photo 7️⃣ A kitten with a tail bigger than a squirrel's🐱 I played with it for a long time using a stick as a cat toy~

THEO HUGHES
Jingmai Mountain | Wengji Ancient Village
❥ Wengji Ancient Village, an ancient village of the Blang people, is regarded as a microcosm of the Blang ethnic group. It is celebrated as the 'Millennium Blang Ancient Village' because it has preserved the Blang's original ecological culture and historical heritage. The village boasts beautiful natural scenery and prominent ethnic cultural features.
❥ The Blang people are one of the earliest ancestors in China and one of the oldest indigenous residents in Yunnan history. Their ancestors, the ancient Pu people, were among the first in the world to discover and utilize wild tea leaves and were also among the first in Yunnan to cultivate and plant tea. Today, they still rely on tea planting and production for their livelihood and are known as 'ancient tea farmers'.
❥ Entering the village, it seems that every household has tea leaves in front of their doors. Tea is their main source of economic income. Besides drinking, it is also used for cooking and even as a common herbal medicine by locals. The roofs of the houses in the village are decorated with patterns of one bud and two leaves, representing the totem of the Blang people. Walking down from the ancient temple, there are many tea shops on both sides of the road. No matter which tea shop you go to, the owner will warmly invite you in for tea. The sign 'Free Tea Tasting' can be seen everywhere in the village, and almost every household has a tea pavilion to entertain tea merchants and tourists from all over.
❥ The architectural style of Wengji Ancient Village is not much different from that of Nuogan Ancient Village, with the same dry-column structure, mostly two-story buildings with the ground floor elevated. The sloping roofs are covered with traditional hanging tiles. However, because Wengji has developed tourism earlier, most of the ground floors of the houses are used as shops. The roads in the village are paved with stone slabs, extending in all directions. Although there are chickens and ducks around, it is cleaner and less dusty. The Blang people prefer bright colors, and their clothing and decorations are colorful and pleasing to the eye.
❥ The Blang people believe in Theravada Buddhism, and the ancient temples are places where Theravada Buddhism is taught. The temples, with their stone-built bases, wide eaves, and broad ridges, the city towers with black tiles and red walls, and the red stone Qilin facing angrily to both sides, serve as both a sanctuary for the residents and a meeting room for the clan. They believe that all things have spirits, such as the spirit of the mountains, trees, rivers, etc. Therefore, the Blang people have a rich variety of sacrificial activities.
❥ Wengji Ancient Village is located at the northern end of Jingmai Mountain, at an altitude of about 1350 meters. Situated on high ground, the village offers views of the sea of clouds and other villages such as Mangjing Upper Village, Mangjing Lower Village, and Manghong. When we arrived, it was the beginning of the temperature drop on Jingmai Mountain, and it was near evening. It didn't feel cold in the car, but once we reached the village, we realized how cold it was and the wind was strong, which made us give up our plan to have dinner in Wengji Ancient Village. We took a quick tour around the village and left in a hurry. Currently, the accommodations and dining on Jingmai Mountain are mainly concentrated in Wengji, with relatively complete facilities and not highly commercialized.
➠Geographic location: Located in Jingmai Village, Huimin Township, Lancang Lahu Autonomous County, Pu'er, Yunnan.

❶Wengji Ancient Village
This is a Blang ethnic village with 93 households. There are homestays and cafes in the village, and the architecture is also in the Blang style. The people here are simple and enthusiastic, and I was warmly invited by a little brother from a convenience store to his home for tea. He said that inviting guests for tea is a common thing here, but everyone is afraid to drink, which he finds puzzling.
.
❷Nuogan Ancient Village
This is the filming location for 'Just One Touch Away' starring Liu Haoran and Peng Yuchang. The residents of the village are all Dai people, and the houses are in the Dai style. The alleys in the village are long and tell the history and culture under the sun.
.
❸Mangjing
Mangjing is divided into upper and lower villages. At the boundary, there is a centuries-old Princess Banyan tree, which is very photogenic. It's close to Wengji Ancient Village, and after checking in, you can go to Manghong to watch the sunset🌄

The mountain is shrouded in mist and covered with tea trees, making it one of the important production areas for Pu'er tea. This mountain, with its long history and rich cultural heritage, successfully applied for intangible cultural heritage last year.

🏠 Accommodation
You can stay in a hotel at the foot of the mountain, or experience a homestay on the mountain. We decided to go there temporarily during the Spring Festival this year, so we didn't book a room, but if you can stay on the mountain, watching the sunrise over the sea of clouds, experiencing the sunset glow, savoring a pot of high-mountain ancient tea, gazing at the full moon over the mountain top, experiencing the ancient mountain culture and daily rhythm, letting go of all thoughts and anxieties, and connecting closely with nature, it must feel amazing. Definitely want to experience it next time.
🍚 Food
There are many farmhouses on the mountain where you can have a taste. The cuisine of the Yunnan minorities is mainly spicy, but you can communicate in advance for less spicy or non-spicy options. The taste is very good, with an average cost of about 80 yuan per person.
🍵 Tea Tasting
After going up the mountain, you are drinking all the way, even before meals the owner will invite you to taste tea. You can find a favorite scenic spot and shop to experience the local tea culture, from clear tea to milk tea to roasted tea, there is always one that you will like.
🏞️ Attractions
We drove from Menglian to Jingmai Mountain, which took about 3 hours, and then went up to the scenic area. There are many villages in the scenic area, such as Mangjing Village and Jingmai Village, but the most famous are Wengji Ancient Village and Nuogan Ancient Village, so we visited these two, as well as the ancient tea gardens and temples
1️⃣ Wengji Ancient Village (Blang ethnicity):
Featuring Blang ethnic culture, the village is small and can be walked from end to end, with many tea shops suitable for tea tasting and enjoying the view
2️⃣ Nuogan Ancient Village (Dai ethnicity):
Featuring Dai ethnic culture, it was too crowded when we went, so we didn't take many photos, but it felt great, and we definitely want to avoid holidays and experience it properly next time.
3️⃣ Ancient Tea Garden: See the thousand-year-old tea garden spanning ten thousand acres, a place that resonates with history and the past. It has been 1800 years and is known as the 'Natural Museum of Tea Trees'.

Mysterious Jingmai Mountain, the hidden ancient temple in Wengji Village that is easy to miss!
Wengji Buddhist Temple is on the right side of the intersection of Wengji Ancient Village, the entrance is not conspicuous, a bit easy to be missed.
On the west side of the temple there is an ancient cypress tree with a tree age of 2580 years. The tree diameter is 11m, the breast diameter is 3.5m, the tree height is more than 20 meters, it is said that a long time ago there was a demon dragon doing evil on the back mountain, to relieve the suffering of the villagers, a Buddha came to the village to meditate and chant sutras to reform the evil dragon, over time, the evil dragon was moved and transformed into a cypress tree, the villagers call it the ancient cypress listening to the sutras.
In addition, on the right hand side of the temple entrance, there are steps up to the viewing platform to see the panoramic view of the village.

Jingmai Mountain preserves the oldest and complete tea culture customs of Chinese ethnic minorities. There are no obvious boundaries between forests, clouds, tea trees and villages. People live in tea forests, and the air is filled with infinite tea and flowers. And the aroma of thousands of plants.
Wengji Guzhai is a small stockade under Jingmai Mountain. It has been made by tea and tea for generations, and every household is well versed in tea making skills. Because it is far from the mainland of the ancestral land, and surrounded by mountains, it is shrouded in thick clouds all the year round, and there have been few wars in history.
