Japan Travel | Places You Can't Miss for Viewing Autumn Leaves in Japan
Places You Can't Miss for Viewing Autumn Leaves in Japan. The autumn foliage season in Kyoto is truly beautiful! It's been half a month since I got back, and I've only now had time to sort through my photos. My personal favorite is Arashiyama, which is actually not a mountain but the name of a district. Several temples here are great spots for leaf viewing. In the city area, I recommend Eikando and Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, which are also stunning!
part 1️⃣ Arashiyama
🚌 Transportation: Take the JR Sagano Line to Saga-Arashiyama Station
🍁 Tenryu-ji Temple
The first stop in Arashiyama, where many people choose to visit, is Tenryu-ji Temple. Here you can overlook the beautiful scenery of Kyoto, and exiting through the Hyakkaen Garden leads you to the Sagano Bamboo Forest.
🍁 Hojo-in
Hojo-in is near Tenryu-ji Temple. Upon arriving at Hojo-in, I couldn't help but exclaim: It's so beautiful!!! The Muai Hikido, under the cover of various colors, and the beautiful maple emotions that change hues, all seem like they're in a painting.
🍁 Jojakko-ji Temple
Passing through the Sagano Bamboo Forest and by a small and exquisite lake, you reach Jojakko-ji Temple. It's another super beautiful temple.
🍁 Hokong-in
Compared to other gardens, Hokong-in is more delicate and unique. I love the Japanese-style garden doors and windows here, which frame the view like a painting, capturing the red leaves and the gentle sunset, creating a fresh and elegant picture.
part2️⃣ City Area
🍁 Nanzen-ji Temple Eikando
🚗 Take the subway Tozai Line to Keage Station
These two temples are very close to each other and can be visited together. They are both very famous spots for leaf viewing, especially the autumn leaves at Eikando are particularly beautiful.
🍁 Shinnyo-do
🚗 Navigate from Eikando to Shinnyo-do, about a 15-minute walk. Shinnyo-do's official name is Shinshogokuraku-ji, which means 'The True Ultimate Bliss Temple'. It's a relatively less-known spot for leaf viewing in Kyoto, with fewer people and beautiful scenery, highly recommended.
🍁 Kitano Tenmangu Shrine
What attracted me to Kitano Tenmangu Shrine was the Uguisu-bashi Bridge. Over 300 maple trees in the garden turn the quietly flowing Kamiya River red, accompanied by the sound of water droplets like the sound of a koto, all anxiety and impatience can be relieved here.
BenjaminMacIntyre43
You can reach this temple from Kyoto by train, ride takes car by 10-15min or by bus 35-45 min, depending time of the day and departing point.
The original Tenryuji temple was built in 1339 and it has burnt several times, so current buildings are from 19th century. It is the most important temple in Arashiyama and it is also one of the 17 UNESCO World Heritage sites in Kyoto. Temple consists several buildings like Hojo (main hall) and Drawing building. They are connected with covered walking path. Temple has also beautiful garden and it is in original format, despite all destruction that has come to temple buildings. The temple has a beautiful hall overlooking a magnificent pool. But the garden is the reason why I want to go there. Certainly one of the best of Kyoto very large which is unusual and with a large variety of plants which is not du frequent. Somewhat crowded and not during the cherry blossom season ! Temple and Arashiyama area are worth a visit. Buy ticket for both the temple and garden at same time.

Kyoto: tip to avoid crowds
The Arashiyama area in northwest Kyoto is on everyone's travel guide books and itineraries so expect it to be packed. However, if you explore the areas outside the bamboo forest and the shopping street, it is a bit quieter and you can enjoy nature in peace. Don't miss the nearby Tenryu-ji temple and Ogura Pond which aren't as packed with people.
On the east side of Kyoto is the Kiyomizudera area. Again, expect this place to be rammed. If you go early in the morning or later in the afternoon, you may be able to enjoy the surrounding areas such as the Shirakawa Canal which opens up its izakayas at night.#Kyoto #japan

||. As a Kyoto fall foliage expert, today I'm sharing my favorite fall foliage spots to make your Kyoto trip unforgettable!
💫 Kiyomizu-dera Temple | Ancient Temple with Red Leaves
Best time: Mid to late November
The red leaves of Sannenzaka are already breathtaking, but the view from the Kiyomizu Stage is even more stunning! The view of the red leaves and ancient buildings is even more dreamy at night. I recommend going after 3 pm when there are fewer people.
🌟 Rurikoin Temple | Water Mirror Reflection
Best time: Mid to late November
The best place to take photos of fall foliage in Kyoto! The perfect reflection of the water mirror garden is a photographer's paradise. It is only open in the fall and requires advance reservations. The best lighting is from 9–11 am, so I recommend going as soon as it opens!
✨ Tofuku-ji Temple | Red Leaf Tunnel
Best time: Late November
The Tsutenkyo Bridge is a must-see landmark! The view from the bridge is breathtaking. The red leaves on one side and yellow leaves on the other make for great photos! I recommend going early to avoid the crowds.
🎋 Arashiyama | Red Leaves and Bamboo Forest
Best time: Mid to late November
Togetsukyo Bridge, Tenryu-ji Temple, and the Bamboo Forest Path are must-sees! I especially recommend taking the train to see the red leaves along the way. I recommend going early in the morning and renting a kimono for photos. Don't miss the local matcha desserts!
🏔️ Kifune Shrine | Mountain Atmosphere
Best time: Early to mid-November
The stone steps are lined with tall maple trees, especially beautiful on rainy days. You can also visit Kurama Onsen. Remember to wear comfortable shoes.
💝 Eikando Temple | Night Foliage
Best time: Mid-November
Known as the "Eikando of Red Leaves," the combination of red leaves and moss in the garden is stunning! Night foliage requires reservations, and the lights on the red leaves are like a fairy tale.

The Night Maple of Toji and the Ginkgo of Nishi Honganji are Amazing
Today's step count reached a new high of 33,000 steps, with half of them completed in Shiga. In the morning, I visited Saikyoji, Hiyoshi Taisha, and the Old Chikurin-in in Shiga. Saikyoji had a small number of maple and ginkgo trees, but they were all exquisite and perfect for photography. Hiyoshi Taisha was also impressive, while the Old Chikurin-in was less so. In the afternoon, I went to Daigoji and Nishi Honganji.
The main photography highlights at Daigoji are the bridge and pavilion over the lake. Nishi Honganji is most beautiful for its three large ginkgo trees, which are very majestic. In the evening, I visited Toji.
The night maple at Toji is stunning and mesmerizing, with the reflection of the five-story pagoda and red maple in the canal being particularly beautiful. Today, I unlocked three World Heritage Sites: Daigoji, Nishi Honganji, and Toji.
Along with Kinkakuji, Ginkakuji, Nijo Castle, Kiyomizu-dera, and Kozan-ji from previous days, and Tenryu-ji before the pandemic, I have now unlocked eight World Heritage Sites in Kyoto. Personally, I found Nijo Castle and Kinkakuji to be the most impressive.

Located in Saga-Arashiyama, it is a World Heritage Site.
It is also famous as the first place in Japan to be designated as a historic site and special scenic spot.
Highlights
◼︎"Unryuzu" on the ceiling of the lecture hall
Painted in ink within a 9m diameter circle, it is said to bring good luck and ward off evil.
It is said to be a "dragon that looks in all directions," as the dragon's expression and movement seem to change depending on the viewing position and angle.
The Unryuzu at Tenryu-ji Temple is characterized by the close distance between the floor and ceiling.

Arashiyama Tenryu-ji Temple
The autumn foliage in Arashiyama may not be the most beautiful, but it stands out because there are many concentrated spots for viewing the maple leaves. This is due to the abundance of maple trees in the area, creating a unique landscape where maple leaves can be seen everywhere. Among the numerous scenic spots, the six most popular ones in Arashiyama are Hozu River Gorge, Tenryu-ji Temple, Daikaku-ji Temple, Nison-in Temple, Hokyo-in Temple, and Jojakko-ji Temple. Without considering time for eating, playing, and shopping, you can easily visit all six spots in one day. Additionally, most of the spots in Arashiyama are temple maple scenes, each with its own unique charm, except for the Hozu River Gorge, which offers a grand and open view.

Kyoto on a day I miss.. Tenryuji Temple
#VisitKyoto Kyoto on the day I miss it.. Tenryuji Temple
Tenryuji Temple is located in the Arashiyama area, near the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest, which is popular among tourists. It is currently registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. When you come to the bamboo forest, stop by this temple for a bit. It will be even more beautiful when the leaves are fully changing.
I sat down and looked back at the photos of my trip to Japan that I took when I went to Kyoto. I thought, "Wow, those photos are beautiful." To be honest, I was annoyed at that time because it was raining and then there was a storm, so my plans were shelved. When I went back to open the folder to look at the photos I took again, it wasn't that bad that day. It gave me a warm feeling from the autumn leaves season, while at the same time, it gave me a lonely feeling from the continuous rain.
How to get there: Get off at Saga Arashiyama Station by train, take bus no. 11,28,93 and get off at Arashiyama Tenryuji Mae stop.

Where Tranquility Meets Timeless Beauty
As I stepped through the gates of Tenryuji Temple, a sense of tranquility washed over me, soothing my soul with its serene atmosphere. Surrounded by lush greenery and the gentle whispers of bamboo rustling in the wind, I felt a profound connection to nature and the spiritual essence of Japan.
Exploring the temple grounds felt like embarking on a journey of self-discovery. The meticulously landscaped gardens seemed to beckon me further, each corner revealing a new vista more breathtaking than the last. The reflection pond, adorned with vibrant water lilies, mirrored the surrounding beauty with serene perfection.
Inside the main hall, the air was filled with the scent of incense, mingling with the soft murmurs of prayers offered by visitors seeking solace and enlightenment. The intricate details of the architecture and the delicate brushstrokes of the painted screens spoke volumes about the artisans who dedicated their lives to crafting such masterpieces.
But it was the moments of quiet contemplation, sitting amidst centuries-old trees or meditating by the koi pond, that truly left an imprint on my heart. In those moments, time seemed to stand still, and I found myself grateful for the opportunity to experience a place of such profound peace and beauty.
Tenryuji Temple isn't just a destination; it's an invitation to connect with something deeper within ourselves and the world around us. It's a reminder to slow down, breathe, and appreciate the simple yet profound moments that make life truly meaningful. #Tenryu-ji #Japan #winhkflight

The Tenryu Ji Temple
#fallishere
The Tenryu ji temple is a short walk, about 5 minutes, from the Arashiyama bamboo forest, so if you're in the vicinity, this place is the next destination you should head to. The Tenryu ji temple is magnificent and it's surroundings are super scenic. At different seasons, you get to admire the tenryu ji with a different feel and atmosphere. The temple also comes with a very beautiful garden but with a paid admission. If you don't wish to visit this garden, the other areas and outside of tenryu ji is still gorgeous on its own.

嵐山天龍寺
嵐山天龍寺 (Tenryu-ji) is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in the Arashiyama district of Kyoto, Japan. The temple was founded in 1339 by Ashikaga Takauji, a military leader who became the first shogun of the Ashikaga shogunate. Tenryu-ji is considered one of the most important temples in the Rinzai sect of Zen Buddhism and is known for its beautiful garden, which features a central pond and a variety of trees and plants.
The original buildings of Tenryu-ji were destroyed by fire several times over the centuries, and the current structures date back to the 19th century. The temple's main hall, called the Hatto, houses a statue of Gautama Buddha, while the Sogenchi Garden is considered one of the finest examples of Japanese garden design.
Tenryu-ji is a popular destination for tourists who want to experience the beauty and tranquility of Japanese Zen gardens and architecture. In addition to its historical and cultural significance, the temple also offers a serene and peaceful atmosphere that provides a respite from the hustle and bustle of city life.

I loved touring the Tenryu Temple because of how nice their garden is. It would've been great if I was there during Autumn, because the garden is just so beautiful. I think it would be more beautiful with the colors of Momiji in it. So this Zen Buddhist temple is located in Arashiyama area in Kyoto. If you are in that area, this temple is definitely worth checking out.

Tianlong Temple, the famous temple of Lushan Mountain, especially the courtyard characterized by the extensive style of landscape painting in the Song Dynasty, can sit in the hall and watch it in the courtyard. Judging from the general perception of the individual, this courtyard belongs to the earlier part of Japan. Since then, it has gradually evolved into the inner core. However, since the Ming Dynasty, the Chinese garden has been biased towards the evolution of life, thus forming two distinct characteristics.
OO-OO.
Tianlong Temple is a world cultural heritage. It was built in 1339 and is the general hospital of the Linji Sect of the Tianlong Temple. It was built by General Ashikaga to support the Emperor.
The garden is a special historical relic of Japan, which combines the elegance of aristocratic culture with the mystery of Zen. There are many buildings in the
temple, including the Fatang Hall on the east-west axis, the Dazhangzhang Temple and the Caoyuanchi Garden, the Zen Hall to the south of the axis, the Youyun Temple, the Longmen Pavilion, and the Xiangyun Pavilion and Duobao Hall to the north of the axis. Baihuayuan and so on.

The land of Tianlong Temple is very large. This land was originally the Tanlin Temple built by the Emperor of the Emperor of the Emperor of the Emperor. The reason why the temple was built is because the Emperor likes to safari in this mountain, so he built a palace near the palace. The Dajue Temple), this piece is also called the wilderness.
