You can reach this temple from Kyoto by train, ride takes car by 10-15min or by bus 35-45 min, depending time of the day and departing point. The original Tenryuji temple was built in 1339 and it has burnt several times, so current buildings are from 19th century. It is the most important temple in Arashiyama and it is also one of the 17 UNESCO World Heritage sites in Kyoto. Temple consists several buildings like Hojo (main hall) and Drawing building. They are connected with covered walking path. Temple has also beautiful garden and it is in original format, despite all destruction that has come to temple buildings. The temple has a beautiful hall overlooking a magnificent pool. But the garden is the reason why I want to go there. Certainly one of the best of Kyoto very large which is unusual and with a large variety of plants which is not du frequent. Somewhat crowded and not during the cherry blossom season !
