Stop for a moment at Tamparuli Bridge, Tuaran. The story behind the construction of Tamparuli Bridge The Tamparuli Bridge was first built in 1930. However, because the river current was too strong, this bridge often collapsed. The British who were the rulers at that time rebuilt this bridge in 1933. The construction of this bridge was led by a British officer named Robinson. At that time, there was a Dusun girl named Solungkoi in the area. The girl or sumandak was recognized as the most beautiful virgin girl at that time. Robinson fell in love with the girl and made Solungkoi his lover. However, before Robinson's arrival, Robinson's servant also had feelings for Solungkoi. The young man was named Intang. However, Intang's love was like a one-sided slap when Solungkoi liked Robinson more. As the individual who was fully responsible for the construction of Tamparuli Bridge, Robinson felt stuck because the bridge often collapsed even though it had been built many times. He needed an immediate solution so that the bridge could be built. Robinson then asked Intang how to make the bridge remain strong. As a local who still held onto old beliefs, Intang then sought advice from Odu-Odu (an old woman). During the meeting with Odu-Odu, the woman told Intang that the construction of the bridge often collapsed because it angered the water ghost, Tonduokar or Tobuakar. Apparently, the water ghost wanted the most beautiful virgin girl in Tamparuli as a sacrifice. Intang, who had a grudge against Sulongkui and Robinson's relationship, used this opportunity to destroy their relationship. News of the sacrifice was immediately reported to Robinson. Intang incited Robinson to make Solungkoi the sacrifice since his lover was the most attractive girl in Tamparuli. Robinson was also in a dilemma. Either sacrifice his love or choose his career. Devoured by Intang's incitement, Robinson finally decided to betray Solungkoi to be made a sacrifice. Solungkoi was then given 'tapai' to drink until he was drunk. Disappointed and angry with Robinson's actions, Solungkoi swore that the Tamparuli bridge would never be strong as long as Robinson's blood did not flow in the river.
