For my first skiing experience, I chose to go to GALA Yuzawa Ski Resort in Niigata. When we arrived, there were so many people! We hired a coach to teach us how to ski, so remember to rent your equipment and book a ski lesson when you get there. Don't worry, there are Chinese-speaking coaches available. At first, they will teach you how to fall and get up on flat ground. Falling repeatedly can be quite painful. Once you master the basics, they will take you to a small slope to practice. After that, you'll take the lift up the mountain to ski down a bigger slope. It was pretty scary, but I managed to complete it successfully. First skiing achievement unlocked! In fact, you can play snow outside the door near the rental area, with barely no one there. (No need to ride the gondola). There were too many people, and it can be dangerous if you are not aware of the ski-people. Even the parking space was full, and we need to find ourselves a parking spot, 15 minutes walking from the entrance. But still, there are many things to do other than skiing that you can choose. We were so lucky to have a snowfalls! But still, it was a good experience for all of us, especially me, who loves Japan the most.

#skitrip Family backcountry ski weekend in Yuzawa area. Saturday: close to Tashiro Kagura ski resort, a small and easy summit with excellent downhill in powder snow (répétition from 2 weeks ago) Second day a bit longer with very nice weather except a crazy wind at the summit - we had to fight it for just a few minutes but it was really tough. It seemed that the mountain thought that 1000m elevation was not enough to deserve the delightful downhill in a large couloir in good snow. So we had to get this crazy wind. But definitely the downhill was worth it!
