Sweet Giant: My Soufflé Quest in Hong Kong

Tucked away in the busy streets of Jordan, Tai Ping Koon is a piece of old-school Hong Kong charm — and I finally made the pilgrimage for one legendary reason: the giant soufflé.
The moment I walked in, the place felt like a time capsule. Dark wood paneling, white tablecloths, and waiters in classic uniforms — it's a mix of colonial nostalgia and Cantonese warmth. But all of that faded the second the soufflé landed on my table.
It wasn’t just big. It was massive — a golden, cloud-like dome towering over the plate like it had its own gravitational pull. Cutting into it revealed the soft, airy inside, steaming and gently sweet. It’s not overly fancy in flavor — just classic, comforting, and oh-so-fluffy. Honestly, it felt like eating a warm, edible pillow.
People say it’s more about the show than the taste, but for me, it was the experience that made it unforgettable.
