A visit to St Non's Retreat, St David's Pembrokeshire
📅 Itinerary
Day2: The day started off overcast and weather conditions didn't seem that favourable for a walk out onto the coast path but I am a rambler and come rain or shine I will not let the elements impede such an excursion. You can reach the coast path from St David's which btw is the smallest city in Britain. The walk starts at the Cathedral and involves a steep climb up towards the city centre. From this elevated position you can look back at the Cathedral and see the ruins of the Bishops Palace. An ideal opportunity to get a photo of the Cathedral. The walk allows the visitor to explore some impressive green space in and around the city of St David's before reaching out to the coast path. Total distance: 4.5 miles. A good map of the 1:25000 variety is recommended. The walker is rewarded with fine views of the cliffs, coves and inlets found along this section of the coast path. St Non's Retreat is a place of pilgrimage and spiritual retreat. It is said to date back to the 7th - 9th centuries and it is reputed to be by tradition the birthplace of St David . St. Non's Well, also on the site, is thought to have appeared at the time of St. David's birth around 500 AD.

📌 Tips
Some good independent retailers and there is also a Mountain Warehouse. You can pick up a range of outdoor gear and accessories for hiking and backpacking from this retailer. The coast path can be rugged and steep in places so stout footwear, walking poles and or hiking boots highly recommended.
St Davids Cathedral
#getgoing2025Visiting St Davids Cathedral was a truly memorable experience. The interior is breathtaking, with its soaring vaulted ceilings, intricate stone carvings, and stunning stained glass windows. The peaceful atmosphere made exploring the ancient chapels and the detailed wooden choir stalls feel special. I was especially drawn to the bishop’s throne and the beautifully tiled flooring, which added to its grandeur. Entry is free, though a small donation of £5 is suggested, which I felt was reasonable for such a historic site. Walking through this magnificent building, steeped in centuries of history, was both awe-inspiring and humbling.
St Davids Cathedral,
#getgoing2025St Davids Cathedral, located in Pembrokeshire, Wales, is an awe-inspiring structure with a rich history dating back to the 12th century. It was built on the site of a 6th-century monastery established by St David, the patron saint of Wales. The cathedral’s Norman architecture is complemented by later Gothic additions, creating a unique and majestic design. Its striking tower and vaulted ceilings are highlights of the structure, along with its intricate stone carvings. Despite its ancient origins, the cathedral remains a place of active worship and a symbol of spiritual and historical significance in Wales.

[Must-visit in Wales] St. David's Cathedral: historical landscape, quiet and solemn
#Must-visit spots in the UK
St Davids Cathedral is located in St Davids, Pembrokeshire, the westernmost part of Wales, with a population of less than 2,000. It is the smallest city in the UK. The hall of the cathedral is very quiet and solemn. After admiring the interior of the church, don't forget to take a good walk around the exterior of the church, which gives you an impression of a combination of long history and beautiful natural scenery.
