Visiting National Gallery’s special exhibition "Siena: The Rise of Painting, 1300-1350" showcasing paintings, sculptures, ivory personal worship objects from several Italian / Sienese artists. It demonstrates a pivotal period in Sienese art, highlighting the city's artistic prowess and the formation of Western painting. It certainly highlights the contribution of Siena in art history. On a more detailed note, the paintings displayed delicate human emotions on sacred figures & personalities important in Christian arts (Jesus Christ, Mother Mary, the apostles like St Peter, St Paul, St John the Apostle, St Anne & Jerome, Mary Magdalene, St Agnes & Catherine Siena, etc. The explanation of how the icons were stored & transported & the design of different pieces of inter-connected works & how they are combined together is simply stunning. There were plenty of general stores, souvenir shops, cafes, and restaurants. It's a recommended place for those who want to enjoy shopping. I also bought a scarf as a souvenir. Siena Cathedral is a masterpiece of Italian Gothic architecture. The detailed decorations were beautiful and the colors were very pretty. I didn't go inside, but I enjoyed just the exterior. As it is a large city, it was a lively town with many tourists.
