Do you know the difference between a hotel and an inn? The most impressive thing about staying at Shirahone Onsen Yumoto Saito Ryokan this time was that the hotel staff were very professional. Because it was raining that day, they first dried our shoes for us and quickly let us go into the room to change into dry clothes. Then the staff conveniently made tea and slowly introduced the facilities of the hotel to us, and explained the difference between it and a hotel. Firstly, hostels usually include meals, whereas hotels usually only provide breakfast. In addition, all Japanese inns must have hot springs or large public baths, while hotels use shower facilities in the rooms. Also, the hotel allows guests to walk around the hotel in their bathrobes and slippers, but the hotel's slippers are only for use in your room. In short, a hostel is an experience; a hotel is a place to rest.
After listening to the introduction, we immediately went to the large public bath to take a bath. After walking in the rain for a day, feeling cold and wet, it was especially comfortable to soak in the warm Shirahone Hot Spring. There is a saying that "soak in the Shirahone Hot Spring for three days and you won't catch a cold for three years." This hotel is very big and it is quite a distance to walk from the room to the bath. Although there were many rooms, there were not many people in the hot spring. We were alone most of the time and took the opportunity to take some hot spring photos. The only downside is that the location is so remote that there is no mobile network signal, and there is no WiFi in the room, so I have to use the WiFi in the lobby to plan my trip to Norikura Plateau tomorrow. But we were the only ones in the lobby, so it was quite comfortable. Before returning to the room, I bought some ice cream produced by the local highland ranch at the hotel’s souvenir shop and tasted it in the room. It had a strong milk flavor and was very delicious.
