We went on an organised coach trip, it's a good hour from Pudong, so more from Puxi. But you really feel out of the city. Obviously autumn time. We took our own food and flasks of tea/ coffee, but there are places there (no Starbucks or McDs!). It was quite busy the lovely day we visited, but it never felt packed. Haiwan National Forest Park is located in Fengxian District in Shanghai. Kayaking is one of the best activities to do here. The best time to go for photos is in December when leaves turn to golden brown and from early to mid afternoon when sunlight hits the side of the leaves. The staff are also very friendly, and courteous. You will be given a life vest and a quick training for your safety. This park was surprisingly busy for the spring festival holiday. However, it was still easy to get to and rent a large 4 wheeled bike. It is far out in Shanghai in Fengxian which also has a short piece of coastline. The roads going to the park are a little frustrating as they are narrow and used for a driving school, so take care. The park itself has a lots to offer and is best explored by wheels of some kind. The park is famous for trees and cherry blossoms in the spring. We were a little early in the year but it was still beautiful and plenty to see. The park was a very lively and beautiful place to visit in Mid-February and was popular with couples taking photos that day.

Located about a 2 hour drive from downtown Shanghai, Haiwan National Forest Park is a lovely escape from city life. We stayed in the campsite with glamping tents ~ complete with air conditioning, a fridge and full bathroom with toilet and shower. At night there was the chance to play karaoke and eat. We brought our own food and had a hot pot and barbecue. The next morning we took the golf carts to the large network of lakes and got in the canoes. We had a guide who showed us the way around and even played some games with us along the way. It was a very fun experience canoeing and being surrounded by such lush greenery and nature was fantastic.
