The nearby Sumoto Ichiya Castle is a famous tourist spot, but if you are sightseeing, we recommend you drop by Kojuji Temple as well. It is about a 5-minute walk from Sumoto Castle, and there is also a parking lot dedicated to the temple. The temple is located in a residential area and has a quiet atmosphere. When we visited in June, there was a beautiful hydrangea water fountain, which was in bloom within the temple grounds. This temple is known locally as Kokuzo-san. It is located at the top of a mountain, so the view of the Nobi Plain looking down from there is spectacular. Speaking of views, the view on the other side of the Nobi Plain, at a place known as the Gifu Pyramid, is also incredibly spectacular. It is a limestone quarry and looks just like a pyramid! You can reach it from Kokuzo-san by short walk along the mountain path. You can also drive part of the way up, so even those with weak legs can visit.

Sunomata Ichiya Castle is famous for being built by Hideyoshi as a base for attacking Inabayama Castle. I visited when the cherry blossoms were in full bloom. I took photos of the cool castle, the vermilion bridge, the cherry blossoms and the rape blossoms in various combinations, and it was fun taking photos from all different angles. Ogaki Castle, located a short walk from the station, is a small castle ruin, but has a historical presence, and the view from the castle tower is surprisingly open, allowing you to see the surrounding townscape. Ogaki is also the end point of the "Hosomichi of the Deep North," and when I visited the Oku-no-Hosomichi Musubi no Chi Memorial Museum, I learned that Matsuo Basho ended his journey here and was able to feel Basho's footsteps. At the museum, Basho's journey and poems are on display, and I was able to learn at length while feeling his thoughts. Walking through the town of Ogaki, I was able to immerse myself in its history while imagining the scenery that Basho saw, and I felt a deeper meaning that the Oku-no-Hosomichi ended here. The scenery with its canals and ponds exuded an atmosphere that seemed like it could have appeared in a Basho haiku, and time passed peacefully.

During the Taisho period, when the surrounding area was cleared for farming, the foundation of the Kondo (main hall) was discovered.
