It is thought that the Kokubunji temple was built using a temple built in the Hakuho period by a local powerful clan. Almost the entire temple complex has been developed, and excavations have confirmed that there are facilities attached to the temple complex around it. During the Taisho period, when the surrounding area was cleared for farming, the foundation of the Kondo (main hall) was discovered.
